5/5/18 Baseball/Softball Wrap: Tim Beimel Walk-Off Single Gives St. Marys Win Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Tim Beimel’s one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning score Brandon Sicheri from third to give St. Marys a 2-1 win over Coudersport.

The game had been tied since St. Marys scored a run in the third before Sicheri got the eighth-inning rally started with a one-out single to right. Jared Groll followed with a double to left moving Sicheri to third, and Coudersport intentionally walked Nate Beimel to bring up Tim Beimel.

Tim Beimel then took an 1-2 pitch from Elliott Hite and deposited a hard-hit ground ball into left field for the game-winning hit.

Fittingly, Tim Beimel’s hit made a winner out of himself. He pitched six scoreless innings of relief allowing one hit and two walks while striking out 12.

Ryan Bressler started and gave up a run on four walks while striking out two in two innings of work.

In addition to his game-winning hit, Tim Beimel also had a triple in the contest. Groll added a single to go with his double and also had an RBI with Sicheri picking up a pair of singles as well. Jake Meeker added a single and a run scored.

Owen Chambers had Coudersport’s lone hit and scored the Falcons lone run. Blake Burgett, who walked twice, had an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the first inning.

Burgett was fantastic on the mound as well going seven innings before reaching the 100-pitch limit allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Hite took the loss allowing one run on three hits and a walk in a ⅓ of an inning.

OSWAYO VALLEY 7, PORT ALLEGANY 0

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Garren Black homered and doubles and Gage Babcock had a double and a triple to lift Oswayo Valley to a 7-0 win over visiting Port Allegany.

Black was 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs with Gage Babcock going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Camden Graves also homered for the Green Wave while going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Meanwhile, Gage Babcock and Black combined to four-hit the Gators.

Gage Babcock started and got the win going 4 ⅓ innings allowing three hits and four walks while striking out five. Black pitched the final 2 ⅔ innings giving up a hit and a walk while striking out six.

Howie Stuckey took the loss allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out three in 2 ⅓ innings of work. Stuckey also had one of Port Allegany’s hits.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, DUBOIS 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – Noah Bloom had a pair of hits and four RBIs to lift DuBois Central Catholic to a 10-1 win over DuBois in the City Game at Showers Field.

Bloom was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple while also scoring twice for the Cardinals, who had 13 hits in the game.

Brandon Walker, Thomas Grecco and Damon Foster each added a pair of hits for DCC with Walker going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Grecco 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs and Foster 2-for-3 with a run scored. Foster was also hit by a pitch. Anthony Kness added a triple and two runs scored in the win with Zane Felix chipping in a double, a run scored and an RBI in his lone at bat.

Jack Mohney had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored DuBois’ lone run.

Grecco was strong again on the mound going 6 ⅔ innings before hitting the 100-pitch mark. He allowed an unearned run on five hits and a hit batter while striking out six. Kness came on and got the final out.

Dylan McCluskey took the loss allowing five unearned runs on seven hits and a walk in 3 ⅔ innings of work.

SOFTBALL

FRANKLIN 4, CRANBERRY 3

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Franklin was outhit by visiting Cranberry 11-3, but the Lady Knights won where it mattered the most, on the scoreboard, handing the visiting Berries their first loss of the season. 4-3.

Winning pitcher Gracie Stryffeler helped herself with a double and a run scored while going 1-for-3, while Christa Rose Hawke was also 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and Kaycee Sweeney was 1-for-3. Lexie Herdle was hit by a pair of pitches and scored twice as well.

Maddie Cornelius, Malliah Schreck and Kaylee Bruce each had a pair of hits for Cranberry with Cornelius scoring twice and Bruce adding a run scored. Libby Kiefer added a double.

Andrea Watson took the loss allowing the four runs on three hits, a walk and three hit batters. She struck out 10.
