CLARION'S CATHCART D9SPORTS.COM DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK TWO |
SEPT. 7-8 |
CLARION – Kyle Cathcart of Clarion is the second D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week for the 2001 season after his performance against Redbank Valley Friday night. Cathcart helped lead Clarion to a 48-20 win over the Bulldogs by rushing for 339 yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries. The 339 yards are believed to be the most in a game in Clarion history and were only 116 yards short of the state record of 455 in a single game set by Connellsville's Marcus Furman last year despite Cathcart being taken out of the game with a little more than three minutes to play in the third quarter. With the big night, Cathcart also went over 3,000 yards rushing in his career and moved to within two scores of the District 9 touchdown record. Cathcart now has 3,125 career rushing yards and 55 career touchdowns. The District 9 record for touchdowns in a career is 57 held by Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio, who ended his career last season. Cathcart is also only 875 yards shy of becoming only the second known back in District 9 history to go over 4,000 yards rushing in a career. Cantafio is District 9’s all-time leading rusher with 4,693 yards rushing. Cathcart’s first crack at the District 9 touchdown record is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday when Clarion travels to Union. Fourteen other players playing in District 9 leagues are also being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below.
