BROOKVILLE – Are you ready for playoff football? District 9 announced its football pairings Monday, Oct. 29, as eight teams will vie for a state playoff berth in three divisions.

The Class A playoffs is comprised of four teams. Action gets under way this weekend as top seeded Smethport (8-0) hosts fourth-seeded and defending champion Curwensville (7-2) Friday night at 7 p.m. It's the second straight week Smethport and Curwensville play each other. Last week, Smethport beat Curwensville, 27-14, in the Allegheny Mountain League Championship game.

Saturday, second-seeded Clarion-Limestone (8-1) hosts third-seeded Coudersport (8-1) at 7 p.m. in Strattanville.

The Class A Championship game will be played Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at a site and time to be announced. Brockway is the likely site of the game unless Smethport plays Coudersport in the title game. The likely site then would be Port Allegany.

The rest of the district playoffs won't begin until the weekend of Nov. 9-10. In the Class AAA Championship game, top-seeded and defending champion Bradford (8-1) plays Clearfield (8-1) on Friday, Nov. 9, at DuBois' E.J. Mansell Stadium starting at 7 p.m. Bradford beat Clearfield in Week One, 13-7.

Also on Friday, Nov. 9, defending champion and state-ranked Karns City (9-0) plays Brockway (7-2) in the Class AA Championship game, which is also a rematch of last year's final. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Redbank Valley.

DuBois, the lone Class AAAA team in District 9, will compete in the District 6-9 playoffs. The Beavers (5-4) finish the regular season Friday at home with Altoona before heading to the playoffs. Next week, the Beavers start the playoffs. Entering the regular season finale, the Beavers are seeded third in the playoff standings behind Altoona and State College. Regardless of the outcomes of this week's games, the Beavers will probably remain the third seed and travel to State College for the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 10. Altoona would play Hollidaysburg or Central Mountain on Friday, Nov. 9.
