WEEK 1

By RICH RHOADES

BROOKVILLE – The visiting Titusville Rockets scored on their first four possessions of the game and rolled to an easy 38-0 rout of Brookville in the season-opening game for both teams Friday night.

The Rockets racked up 449 total yards while limiting the Raiders to only 27 yards of offense. Quarterback Larry Smith completed 5 of 10 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns, all of that coming in the first half as the Rockets led 26-0 at intermission. All three of Smith’s TD passes went to senior Kyle Minium on connections of 24, 55 and 37 yards.

Titusville also had success running the ball as it piled up 301 yards of rushing. Chad Thompson gained 135 yards on 16 carries. His 34-yard TD run opened the second-half scoring and put Titusville up 32-0. On Titusville’s next possession, Matt Warner rambled 62 yards for a touchdown on his only carry of the game.

Warner’s TD closed the game’s scoring with 5:37 left in the third quarter and invoked the PIAA Mercy Rule, which goes into effect when a team leads by more than 35 points in the second half. At that point, the clock runs continuously unless a timeout is called, or an injury or a change of possession occurs.

Brookville managed only three first downs, two of them coming on Titusville penalties. The Rockets were penalized 11 times for 104 yards.
