SHEFFIELD RALLIES TO BEAT KANE IN SHOOT-OUT

SHEFFIELD - Byron Drew caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Nik Obenrader with 3:49 left in the game to give Sheffield a 40-34 win over Kane Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday night at Kane, but was moved to Saturday at Sheffield because the new bleachers at the Kane field were not complete.

The contest was a shoot-out as both teams put up big offensive numbers. For Sheffield (1-0), Obenrader went 7-of-13 passing for 269 yards and four touchdowns, including one rushing touchdown, while Drew caught six passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Earl Holt rushed for 111 yards on just six carries and scored a touchdown for Sheffield.

Tyler Smith was the main man for the Wolves (0-1) going 22-of-34 fro 263 yards and three touchdowns.

But Kane was victimized by four touchdowns, all of them fumbles, and 101 yards in penalties.

Sheffield jumped out to a 12-0 in the first quarter before Kane tied the score at 12 by the end of the first frame. Obenrader scored on a 15-yard run, and Drew scored on a 77-yard reception to start things off. But Kane rallied with a 3-yard TD run by Smith and a 6-yard touchdown reception by Justin Jeffords.

The big play hurt Kane at the beginning of the second quarter, as Holt scored on a 78-yard run, but Kane rallied again on a Justin Jeffords 41-yard touchdown reception. The two scores made the game tied at 20-all. 

Sheffield took the lead again, this time on a 56-yard touchdown reception by Drew, but Kane took the lead on a 12-yard TD reception by Mike Jamerson and a two-point conversion reception also by Jamerson. The scores gave Kane a 28-26 lead, its first lead of the game. 

Kane had a 34-26 lead before Sheffield rallied for the win on a 62-yard reception by Kyle Wurst and Drew's TD reception with 3:49 left.
