EMPORIUM -- Friday morning Elk County Catholic’s tailback Craig Timm ate his Wheaties. Rocco Tettis and the Crusader linemen must have also joined him for breakfast because on Friday night they all played like champions. Timm rushed the ball 22 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns leading the ECC Crusaders to a 33-6 win over the Cameron County Red Raiders in Emporium on Friday night. "It was a long time coming," ECC head coach Joe Schlimm said. "We finally put it all together tonight and played a really solid football game. We were able to get good play from our offensive line, and we executed well. "Cameron County has a young team, and we jumped on them early. When that happens, all of the cards are in your favor." Elk County scored quickly and often in the opening half. Rocco Tettis started it all with the first of five interceptions by the Crusaders. Taking the ball over near midfield, the Crusaders marched to the Raider end zone in a 13-play drive. Craig Timm pushed his way in from a yard out for the first Elk County score. Quarterback Robert Pearsall found Todd Silfies for the two point conversion pass to make the score 8-0. Cornerback Matt Eckert registered the second Crusader interception which lead to their second score. Timm carried the ball twice to get the ball to the Elk County 49-yard line. Pearsall dropped back into the pocket and hit a wide open Rocco Tettis behind the Raider secondary as he sprinted 51 yards into the end zone. The conversion failed. On their next possession, Cameron County was unable to get their offense in gear and had to punt facing a fourth-and-12. Elk County moved the ball to their 39-yard line on a pass from Pearsall to Silfies. Timm took the hand off through a huge hole up the middle and raced 61 yards for the third Crusader score in the first half making the score 20-0. Tettis then recovered a fumble deep in Raider territory on the next Cameron County possession to set up the last Crusader score before half. Starting at the Raider 23-yard line, Timm and Silfies took turns moving the ball to the goal line. Timm took it in from 3 yards out to make the score 26-0 at the half. "We didn’t play with any intensity at all in the first half," Cameron County head coach John Fragale said. "You aren’t going to win many football games when you have as many turnovers (nine) and penalties as what we had tonight. "Elk County may have been 1-3 coming in, but I warned the kids all week that they lost to three very good football teams." Cameron County came out after intermission with a renewed intensity level. Receiving the kickoff, they started at their 45-yard line. Twelve running plays by Scott Horning, Gary Clark, and Gideon Hornung moved the ball to the Crusader 5-yard line where the Raiders coughed up the ball. The fumble was recovered by ECC’s Todd Silfies. The Crusaders, though, returned the favor by giving the ball back on the next play with Ryan Clingan pouncing on loss ball at the 6-yard line for Cameron County. Cameron County fullback Gary Clark plowed his way in from six yards out for the Raider’s lone score. The final score of the game came in the fourth quarter, as Elk County took the ball over deep in Cameron County territory. After seven running plays, Jake Stager crashed in from two yards out. Eric Bush added the point after to make the final score 33-6. Both teams return to action next Friday as Cameron County travels to Curwensville and Elk County hosts Kane.
