CURWENSVILLE -- Opportunity knocked and Curwensville answered...quickly.

Curwensville, the defending AML South Division champions, scored six times Friday night against the Cameron County Red Raiders and five of those came after a Raider miscue.

Curwensville’s Joe Bennett rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, while Jim Thompson threw for two others to lead the Golden Tide to a 36-6 win over the Red Raiders Friday night in Allegany Mountain League action.

The Golden Tide took advantage of a fumble early in the game, as Nate Irwin pounced on a loose ball at the Red Raider 7-yard line. Two plays later Keegan Prisk took the ball up the middle for a 3-yard touchdown run. Cory Bailor added the extra point to make the score 7-0.

Keegan Prisk wasn’t done with his early game heroics.

Cameron County’s Matt Pierce recovered a Tide fumble near midfield. But two plays later Prisk intercepted a long pass at his own 17-yard line.

From there Curwensville put together a 12 play drive featuring a 50-yard run by Bennett. Bennett finished the drive from two yards out, and Bailor added the point after to extend the lead to 14-0.

Opportunity number three came as Curwensville’s Nate Irwin picked up a fumbled flea-flicker and returned it to the Red Raider 14-yard line.

Four running plays moved the ball to the 4-yard line. Jim Thompson found Irwin in the end zone for the score. Cameron County’s Joe Malizia blocked the extra point attempt.

The final score before half came on a ten play, 55-yard scoring drive. Runs by Collins Brooks, Ryan Bilger, Prisk and Bennett moved the ball to the 23-yard line. Jim Thompson then hit Mark Records with a perfect pass for the touchdown. Bailor’s kick sailed through the uprights to make the score 27-0 at halftime.

"We played an good football team tonight," said Red Raider head coach John Fragale. "They put a lot of pressure on us defensively and did a nice job mixing it up on offense."

Right after half Curwensville capitalized on another Raider mistake.

Matt Kelgren picked off an errant pass and returned it 31 yards to the Red Raider 30-yard line. Facing a fourth-and-long, Bennett took the ball in from 25 yards out and Bailor added the point after extending the lead to 34-0.

Curwensville scored again 25 seconds later as a high snap to the punter sailed over his head and out of the back of the end zone recording a safety.

Cameron County finally put together a drive on their last possession of the game.

Starting at their own 20-yard line the ball was moved to the 35 on a penalty. Running plays by Joe Glosek, Keith Horning and Dan Hoffower maneuvered the ball to the 27-yard line of Curwensville. Kyle Vogt hit Horning with a pass to the 17. Raider quarterback Vogt then carried the ball to the 6-yard line and then again into the end zone for the lone Red Raider score of the evening making the final score 36-6.
