KEYSTONE'S BLACK CONTINUES TO REWRITE THE RECORD BOOKS IN PANTHERS' WIN

WEEK SEVEN

FOXBURG – Adam Black continued to rewrite the record books at Keystone High School setting three more school records in a 42-14 Keystone win over A-C Valley Friday night at A-C Valley.

Black set Keystone’s single-season record for touchdown passes (26) and the Panther career records for yards passing in a career (4,829), pass completions in a career (345) and career attempts (705). All three records were formerly held by Keystone great Tom Pore.

The game didn’t start out all that well for the Panthers, as A-C Valley returned the opening kickoff 55 yards to the Falcon 49-yard line. A-C Valley then scored on its first play from scrimmage when Zach Heeter ran for a 51-yard touchdown.

Keystone was unable to mount much offense in the first quarter as the Falcon's played inspired football. The score ended 8-0 in favor of A-C Valley.

The Panthers managed to put three points on the board early in the second quarter when Chris Metcalf kicked a 23-yard field goal to cut the A-C Valley lead to 8-3.

The Falcons continued their ground attack and pushed the ball deep into Panther territory. The Panthers held, though, and the Falcons attempted a 25-yard field goal.

Barry Swartzfager blocked the field-goal attempt, and Sam Swartzfager returned it 70 yards to set up the first Panther touchdown. A definite momentum change as ACV had been in charge of the game until that point.

The first Keystone touchdown came on a 19-yard pass from Black to Billy Colwell. Black then hit Bobby Telesz with the two-point conversion to give Keystone an 11-8 lead.

The Panthers then got the ball back with less than two minutes left in the first half.

With Black directing the two-minute offense to perfection he completed six consecutive passed. He hit Buck Neely for eight yards, Patrick Irwin for 13 yards, Telesz for 11 yards, Colwell for one, Irwin again for 20 yards and finally Colwell with a 7-yard touchdown strike with 11 seconds left in the half putting Keystone up 17-8 as the kick attempt was blocked.

Kurt Carnahan returned the second-half kickoff 47yards to the A-C Valley 35-yard line, and Black promptly hit Neely with a 35-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage.

After several exchanges the Panthers struck again in the third quarter with Black finding Telesz for an 11-yard touchdown. Metcalf added the extra point, and Keystone led 30-8 at the end of the third quarter.

The Falcon's wouldn't quit and scored early in the fourth quarter when Heeter scored his second touchdown of the evening from 13 yards out. The two-point conversion failed, and Keystone led 30-14.

On their next possession the Panthers moved the ball via the ground as well as the air. Metcalf accounted for much of his 75 yards on this drive. The drive started with a 29-yard scamper by Metcalf followed by a 7-yard run by Colwell and 16 more from Metcalf. Black then carried the ball nine yards to the Falcons’ 20-yard line and on the next play he hit Telesz on a touchdown strike.

Keystone's final score would come on a Neely pass to Eric Baughman covering 25 yards.

Once again Keystone's outstanding offensive line (Adam Weeter-C, Corey Peterson-T, Erik Dehner-T, Alex Hartzell - G and Neal Jack -G) gave Black the time he needed.

The Panther defense was led by Chris Metcalf's 12 tackles, Neal Jack and Sam Swartzfager added seven tackles and Levi Mohney chipped in with six. Kurt Carnahan and Billy Colwell had interceptions. Barry Swartzfager blocked a field goal and his brother Sam returned the ball 70 yards.

Heeter led A-C Valley with 18 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
