PUNXSUTAWNEY – Dustin Guidash’s touchdown run on the first possession of the second half was all that mattered as the Punxsutawney Chucks notched a 7-0 win over visiting Brookville Friday night, claiming the Route 36 Trophy after four straight losses to the Raiders.

Punxsutawney (3-5 overall, 2-3 District 9 League) won its third straight game while Brookville dropped to 0-8 (0-5 in D-9 League), matching the Raiders’ worst-ever record. Brookville finished 0-8 in 1957, its only winless season.

Guidash, who rushed for 104 yards on 23 carries, scored on a 6-yard run with 7:41 left in the third quarter. Guidash carried the ball seven times in the eight-play, 60-yard drive.

Each team threatened to score earlier in the game. In the Chucks’ second possession of the game, quarterback Joe Martin was intercepted by Matt Melillo in the end zone on a third-and-six play from the Raiders’ 10. The Chucks reached the Brookville 20 in their next possession, but stalled thanks to a 23-yard penalty. The Chucks were penalized for 103 yards, 93 of them coming in the first half.

Brookville mounted a drive to the Punxsutawney 6-yard in the late moments of the first half, but a sack of quarterback Cole Cook pushed the Raiders back to the 15. Two plays later, Kyle Barilar intercepted Cook in the end zone to end the threat.

Punxsutawney sacked Cook six times for minus-48 yards in losses, which carried big weight in Brookville’s minus-seven yards rushing for the game. Cook completed 10 of 27 passes for 118 yards.

The Chucks outgained the Raiders, 223-111. Martin completed 2 of 8 passes for 60 yards, one of them a 63-yard completion to Kyle Barilar.
