WEEK NINE

EMPORIUM – On Friday night, the Otto-Eldred Terrors traveled to Cameron County to play a football game. Five minutes into the game, Cameron County¹s head coach John Fragale looked as happy as a man just asked to hug a porcupine. But that look changed quickly.

Otto Eldred took their second possession 62 yards in three plays to score the games first touchdown as Chris Curcio sprinted 55 yards around the right end into the end zone. After a failed conversion, Otto Eldred took an early 6-0 lead, but from that point on it was all Cameron County as seven different Red Raider players reached the end zone to help Cameron to a 47-6 win over Otto-Eldred.

"It was a little scary there for a moment," Fragale said. "But the kids became more focused and everything turned out all right."

The Red Raiders ended the night with 303 yards on the ground and 50 yards through the air as for a total of 353 yards of offense.

After Otto’s first score, Cameron County responded quickly.

Tailback Scott Horning rushed the ball three times for 56 yards to the Terror 8-yard line. Gideon Hornung finished off the drive by crashing into the end zone. Horning added the extra point to make the score 7-6 Cameron County.

Cameron’s next possession produced the same result. A five-play drive highlighted by a bruising 23-yard run by fullback Gary Clark set up an 11-yard touchdown run by Horning. Horning’s kick upped the score to 14-6.

Otto’s offense sputtered once again, and the Red Raiders regained possession of the ball at midfield.

On the first play, quarterback Gideon Hornung rifled the ball 50 yards to a wide open Scott Aikens as he glided into the end zone making the score 20-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, the Terrors put together a 13-play drive to the Red Raider 33-yard line. Two costly Otto-Eldred penalties moved the ball back to the Red Raider 43-yard line where the Raiders took over three plays later.

A 22-yard pick-up by Horning moved the ball to the OE 35-yard line. Hornung followed suit by picking up another 21 yards on the next play. Two plays later, Clark lumbered into the end zone. Hornung sprinted out right to pay dirt for the conversion extending the lead to 28-6.

The Raiders once again contained the Terrors and forced another punt with the Raiders coming up with good field possession.

Four successive running plays moved the ball to the Eldred 3-yard line. Kyle Vogt took the ball up the middle on a quarterback sneak for the score. The score remained 34-6 at the half as the kick failed to split the uprights.
"It was a great way to end the year for the seniors," Fragale said. "I wish that we could have played them a little bit more, but they did what they had to do early and it gave the other kids a great chance to play."

The second half unfolded much the same way as the first half.

Otto elected to go to the pass to try to get back into the ball game, but Raider cornerback Eric Johnson became their favorite receiver as he picked off three Terror passes, one of which he returned for a Cameron County touchdown.

Otto’s woes continued, as Cameron County’s Matt Pierce landed on a Terror fumble at the Otto-Eldred 10-yard line.

Red Raider tailback Joe Glosek became the seventh Cameron County player to set foot in the end zone as he took it in from 1-yard out. Scott Horning finished off the scoring with his point after making the final score 47-6 in favor of the Red Raiders.

Cameron County finished the year at 5-4 while Otto-Eldred completed their season with a 0-9 record.
