ALTOONA 29, DUBOIS 28 (OT)

DuBOIS – Altoona’s Rue Moyer’s two-point run in overtime helped the Mountain Lions (9-1) escape an upset by DuBois (5-5), as Altoona got a 29-28 win over the Beavers.

Moyer’s two-point run came moments after he had pull Altoona to within a point at 28-27 on a 5-yard run.

DuBois had taken a 28-21 lead in the overtime thanks to a 10-yard pass from Chad Hilliard to Josh Campbell and a Mark Guthridge extra point.

After the Mountain Lion touchdown, Altoona took a time-out after initially lining up for the extra point. Out of the time-out they decided to go for the win, and got it when the offensive line paved a hole for Moyer.

Altoona led 21-14 at halftime, but DuBois tied the game in the third quarter on a 70-yard punt return by Brian Gearhart.

The Mountain Lions took an early 7-0 lead on a 16-yard run by Thad Mitchell, but a 4-yard run by Derek Marshall tied the game at seven with 7:38 left in the first quarter.

Altoona then took a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter on a 35-yard run by Brian Camberg.

DuBois came right back at the start of the second quarter and tied the game on a 17-yard pass from Hilliard to Marshall before Altoona took the lead at halftime on a 35-yard pass from Camberg to Nick Consalvo.

Marshall ran the ball 21 times for 116 yards and a score and caught one pass for 17 and a touchdown. Hilliard was 5-for-16 passing for 58 yards and two touchdowns and also ran the ball 13 times for 66 yards.

Mitchell had 16 rushes for 104 yards and a score to lead Altoona, while Camberg was 5-for-10 for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball six times for 63 yards and a score.

The Beavers travel to State College Saturday for the opening round of the District 6-9 playoffs, while Altoona host Hollidaysburg Friday in the other opening round playoff game.

KEYSTONE 22, BROCKWAY 14

BROCKWAY – Brockway (7-3) held the vaunted Keystone attack to only 191 yards of total offense, but the Panthers (7-3) used three big plays to defeat the Rovers 22-14 Friday night at Brockway.

Keystone got on the board on the opening kickoff when Kurt Carnahan took the boot 90 yards to pay dirt and a 6-0 lead.

Brockway game back and tied the game at six in the second quarter on a 2-yard run by Trenton Marnati.

The Panther retook the lead 14-6 on an 83-yard pass from Adam Black to Barry Swartzfager and a two-point conversion toss from Black to Pat Irwin with 5:51 left in the first half, but Brockway retied the game on a 26-yard run by Tom Buzzard who then added the two-point run with 1:26 left before the half.

The game remained tied until the start of the fourth quarter when Carnahan scored on a 30-yard run of a reverse with 11:29 left in the game. Buck Neely then caught the two-point pass from Black to make the score 22-14.

Black was 3-for-16 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown, while Carnahan had four carries for 81 yards and a score and returned a kick for a touchdown for Keystone.

Buzzard carried the ball 17 times for 87 yards to lead the Rovers who also got 67 yards on 21 carries from Jon Cantafio.

Keystone’s season is now over, while Brockway will play Karns City in the District 9 Class AA championship game Friday at Redbank Valley.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 12, ST. MARYS 6

ST. MARYS – Rocco Tettis' 40-yard run in overtime lifted Elk County Catholic (6-4) to a 12-6 win over St. Marys (3-7) in the battle of Elk County Friday night in St. Marys.

St. Marys led 6-0 at halftime on a 54-yard run by Dan Fox, but ECC tied the game at six late in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Robert Pearsall.

The Dutchmen outgained ECC 235 yards to 94 but couldn’t get on the scoreboard more than once.

Craig Timm led the way for ECC with 54 yard rushing on 15 carries, while Todd Stilfies had 33 on nine totes.

Fox rushed for 181 yards on 30 carries and a score to lead St. Marys.

The season is now over for both teams.

CARRICK 12, REDBANK VALLEY 6

NEW BETHLEHEM – Two consecutive Redbank Valley fumbles late in the first half allowed Carrick (2-8) to score all the points it would need in a 12-6 win over Redbank Valley (3-7) Friday night at Redbank Valley.

A Bulldog fumble at their own 26-yard line allowed Carrick, a City League (District 8) Class AAAA team, to get its first touchdown on a 6-yard run by Rich Boyle with 1:14 left in the opening half.

Then on the first play after the ensuing kickoff another Redbank Valley fumble gave Carrick the ball at the Bulldogs 39-yard line. A 27-yard hail mary pass from John Graham to Kory Parker with three seconds left in the half helped Carrick take a 12-0 lead at the half.

Redbank Valley tried to mount a comeback in the second half getting on the scoreboard on a 5-yard run by Chris Merwin with 51 seconds left in the third quarter, but that was all the scoring in the game.

The Bulldogs were also hurt by the loss of start fullback Ron Geist to a first-quarter ankle injury.

Tyson Shreckengost stepped up in the absence of Geist and rushed for 110 yards on 25 carries, while Merwin was 8-for-14 passing for 91 yards and also scored a rushing touchdown.

Brian Martin rushed for 63 yards on 20 carries to lead Carrick.

The season is now over for both squads.

WEST MIDDLESEX 28, MONITEAU 26

WEST MIDDLESEX – West Middlesex scored a fourth-quarter safety on a punt snap that went over the head of the Moniteau punter, and the two points turned out to be crucial allowing the Indians to squeeze past the Warriors (4-6) 28-26 Friday night at West Middlesex.

Moniteau twice failed on two-point conversions late in the game that would have tied the contest.

Quarterback Heath Schreffler had a big game for Moniteau going 7-for-12 passing for 142 yards with Pat Rumbaugh catching three passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Jackson two passes for 81 yards and a score.

Bill Staab rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown on eight carries for the Warriors who season is now over.
