ALDERTON LEADS C-L OVER WEST SHAMOKIN

CLARION TWP. – After missing almost all of Clarion-Limestone’s first two games with a concussion he suffered early in the season opener against Karns City, Lions senior Dan Alderton returned with a bang scoring four touchdowns to help lead C-L to a 48-8 win over West Shamokin in a KSAC match-up Saturday at C-L. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night but was moved to Saturday afternoon.

Alderton scored three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown, all in the first half, to help the Lions to a 34-0 halftime lead.

C-L got the score up to 41-0 before West Shamokin scored a late fourth quarter touchdown.

After playing nearly two-thirds of the first quarter scoreless, C-L got its first score in a heartbeat when Chad Conti returned a Jerry Wilson punt 50 yards for a touchdown with 4:06 left in the opening quarter. The point after was no good, but C-L held an early 6-0 lead.

The Lions tacked on eight more points a couple of minutes later when Alderton scored from a yard out and then Hayden Johnston found Alderton with the two-point pass giving C-L a 14-0 lead with 1:59 left in the first quarter.

C-L started to put the game out of reach in the opening minutes of the second quarter when Alderton took off on a 26-yard scoring jaunt that coupled with Rocky Davis’ extra point gave the Lions a 21-0 lead with 10:48 left in the half.

A little over three minutes later Alderton scored on a 74-yard run that gave the Lions a 28-0 lead with 7:07 left in the first half.

Alderton then finished off the Lions’ first-half scoring when he caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Johnston giving C-L a 34-0 halftime lead.

The Lions moved the score to 41-0 on a 23-yard pass from J.J. Ferguson to Justin McKissick with 6:09 remaining in the third quarter.

West Shamokin finally lit up the scoreboard on a 2-yard run by Steven Cupec with 4:42 left in the game, but C-L answered with a 3-yard run by Cam Speer with only 1:25 left to play.

In addition to his four touchdowns, Alderton rushed for 104 yards on six carries and added one catch for 30 yards. Brendan Huwar added eight carries for 83 yards, as the Lions filed up 303 yards rushing to West Shamokin's 63.

C-L quarterback Hayden Johnston was 1-for-3 for 30 yards and a score while throwing an interception. J.J. Ferguson went 3-for-5 for 40 yards and one touchdown.

For West Shamokin, Chris Reefer ran for 39 yards on eight carries, while Cupec had 28 yards on eight carries. The key for the Lions was holding the Wolves’ top back Bill Fulton to only 15 yards on seven carries.

Trevor Henderson went 11-for-17 passing for 92 yards for West Shamokin but he also threw two interceptions. Jon Nagy was the Wolves top receiver catching four passes for 30 yards.

For the game, C-L outgained West Shamokin 373 yards to 157 yards. 

DUBOIS DEFEATS BROOKVILLE 

BROOKVILLE - DuBois quarterback Chad Hilliard passed for three touchdowns to lead DuBois to a 28-7 win over District 9 League rival Brookville Saturday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday, but was postponed one day.

Hilliard two TD passes to Mark Jones covering 29 and 13 yards and tossed a 10-yarder to Ryan Drayer. He completed 9 of 18 pass for 143 yards.

DuBois (3-0) also got another 100-yard rushing effort from Derek Marshall, who gained 161 yards on 23 carries. Marshall has now run for three straight 100-yard games, totaling 451 yards for the season.

DuBois led 21-0 following Hilliard's third TD pass and second to Jones with 1:09 left in the first half. Brookville (0-3) scored its only points on Matt Melillo's 2-yard TD pass to Ben Daniels with seven seconds left before intermission.

The only score in the second half came on Josh Campbell's 27-yard TD run with 9:55 left in the third quarter.

DuBois outgained Brookville, 400-212, and limited the Raiders to 19 yards rushing on 20 attempts.

BROCKWAY OUTLASTS ECC

BROCKWAY – Brockway raced out to a 13-0 halftime lead and then held on to beat Elk County Catholic 13-6 in an AML South football game Saturday night. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved to Saturday.

Brockway’s first score came on a 7-yard reception by Benji Martini on a pass from John Himes with 4:16 left in the first quarter, Jon Cantafio’s extra point gave the Rovers a 7-0 lead.

The Rovers made the score 13-0 when Cantafio scored on a 13-yard run with 2:18 left in the second quarter.

ECC’s lone score came on a 76-yard run by Craig Timm with 5:10 left in the third quarter, but the Rovers were able to fend off the Crusaders the rest of the way to get the win.

Leading the way for Brockway was Jeremy Sickeri with 89 yards rushing on 22 carries, while Cantafio had 56 yards on 13 carries and Trenton Martini had 47 yards on nine carries. Himes was 4-for-8 for 44 yards and one touchdown while also throwing an interception.

Timm led the Crusaders with 121 yards on 10 carries, while Robert Pearsall was 5-for-13 passing for 81 yards while throwing two interceptions. Joe Urman caught two passes for 56 yards to lead the ECC receivers.
