CLEARFIELD 21, DUBOIS 0

CLEARFIELD – Tri-Champions again!

In the history of the D9League there had never been Tri-Champions until Bradford, Clearfield and DuBois all tied for the lead last season. One year later, the same three teams did it again thanks to a 21-0 Clearfield (8-1) win over DuBois (5-4) Friday night that left all three teams 4-1 in the conference.

Todd Shaw caught two touchdown passes from Michael Sayers, and the Clearfield defense held DuBois to 164 yards of offense to lead the Bison to their eighth straight win after a Week One loss to Bradford.

Clearfield got the only points it would need on the game’s first play from scrimmage when Sayers hit Shaw with a 74-yard touchdown pass that gave the Bison a 7-0 lead only 19 seconds into the game.

The Bison made the lead 14-0 late in the second quarter when Shaw caught a 34-yard pass from Sayers with 2:51 left before halftime.

Clearfield then took a 21-0 halftime lead on a 2-yard scoring run by Dave Richards with 50 seconds left in the second quarter.

Sayers went 8-for-12 passing for 155 yards and two touchdowns with his main target being Shaw who caught four passes for 130 yards and two scores. Richards was the main force on the ground for Clearfield rushing for 64 yards on 16 carries.

DuBois was led by Derek Marshall who gained 145 of the Beavers 164 yards on the day. All of Marshall’s yardage came on 21 carries.

Clearfield will get a rematch against Bradford in the District 9 Class AAA championship game in two weeks, while DuBois faces Altoona Friday night before moving into the District 6-9 playoffs in two weeks.

BROCKWAY 58, PORT ALLEGANY 0

BROCKWAY – Bradford’s defense held Port Allegany to 20 total yards of offense on 37 plays including 20 yards on 35 carries on its way to a 58-0 win over the Gators Friday night at Brockway.

While the defense was shutting down the Gators, Brockway’s offense got two touchdowns apiece from Jon Cantafio, Tom Buzzard and Trenton Marnati.

Brockway (7-2) ran out to a 34-0 halftime lead and then added 24 second-half point to get the runaway win over the Gators (2-7).

Brockway led 14-0 a the end of the first quarter thanks to a 7-yard run by Jeremy Sickeri and a 24-yard scamper by Cantafio.

A 53-yard run by Buzzard followed by a 3-yardrun by Marnati and a 4-yard scamper by Cantafio have the Rovers the 34-0 halftime lead.

Marnati then returned the second-half kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown and a 42-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter the Rovers got a 3-yard touchdown run from Justin McKay and a 23-yard run by Seth Rhed.

Sickeri led Brockway with 71 yards rushing on five carries, while Cantafio had 66 yards on nine carries and McKay 66 yards on 11 carries. Buzzard added 65 yards on two carries. Trenton Marnati had seven carries for 45 yards and had one catch for 20 yards.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 22, SHEFFIELD 8

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic led 14-0 at halftime and went on to a 22-8 win over Sheffield Friday night in St. Marys. 

The Crusaders (5-4) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a 15-yard run by Craig Timm with 4:44 left in the first quarter.

ECC then went up 14-0 at halftime thanks to a 3-yard run by Jake Stager with 4:59 left in the first half.

The Crusaders upped their lead to 22-0 on a 45-yard run by Ted Cherry with 7:43 left in the third quarter before Sheffield (5-4) got a 13-yard run from Earl Holt with 2:43 left in the game.

Timm led the ECC offense with 133 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while Cherry had three carries for 62 yards and a score and Stager 56 yards and a score on nine totes.

Holt led Sheffield with 96 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, while Kyle Wurst had three catches for 66 yards.

The loss kept the Wolverines out of the District 10 Class AA playoffs. According to Jim Melaro at the Olean (NY) Times-Herald, if Sheffield had won they would have been put into the District 10 postseason.

ST. MARYS 34, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 0

PHILIPSBURG – Dan Fox ran for 142 yards and one touchdown and Doug Surra ran for 95 yards and a touchdown to lead St. Marys to a 34-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night at Philipsburg. 

St. Marys (3-6) led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 30-yard run by Surra with 6:40 left in the quarter.

The Dutchmen then scored 16 second-quarter points on a 4-yard run by Fox with 10:37 left in the half and a 10-yard pass from Brandon Bennett to Tony Kopp with one second left before the half to take a 20-0 halftime loss.

St. Marys then went up 26-0 on a 1-yard dive by Bennett with 1:32 left in the third quarter, and a 2-yard run by Dustin Ruberto with 11:29 left in the game.

COUDERSPORT 20, JOHNSONBURG 0

JOHNSONBURG – Coudersport tuned up for the playoffs with a 20-0 win over Johnsonburg Friday night at Johnsonburg. 

The Falcons (8-1) led only 8-0 at halftime thanks to a 10-yard run by Ross Simcoe with 6:17 left in the first quarter but scored on a 45-yard run by Dane Haskins in the third quarter and a 37-yard pass from Ben Cary to Zach Hershey in the fourth quarter to hand the Rams (3-6) their fifth straight loss following a 3-1 start.

Simcoe led the Coudersport running attack with 17 carries for 72 yards, while Cary was 13-for-24 passing for 149 yards and one touchdown and one interception. Hershey caught four passes for 76 yards, with Simcoe adding two grabs for 15 yards.

Francis Jovenitt led Johnsonburg with 21 carries for 90 yards, but sophomore quarterback Greg Wonderly was just 2-for-17 passing for 57 yards while throwing two interceptions.

RIDGWAY 33, EISENHOWER 0

RIDGWAY – Brandon Steger started the season as the starting quarterback for Ridgway, he ended it as one of its top running backs. 

Steger, who lost his starting quarterback job to Andy Kelly early in the season, led the Elkers with 101 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 15 carries in a 33-0 Ridgway (6-3) win over Eisenhower (2-7) Friday night at Ridgway.

Steger scored the game’s first touchdown on a 5-yard run with 6:08 left in the first quarter and teammate Dustin Dickant, who ran for 89 yards on 19 carries, made the score 12-0 at halftime on a 1-yard run with 58 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Elkers then upped the lead to 19-0 on a 4-yard run by Ryan Mitchell with 6:36 left in the third quarter before a 6-yard run by Dave Bundy and a 7-yard run by Steger ended the scoring in the fourth quarter.

The Ridgway defense held Eisenhower to only 41 total yards while allowing the Knights to run only 29 offensive plays.

BROOKVILLE 33, MEADVILLE 6

MEADVILLE – Brookville (1-8) got its first win of the season in its last scheduled game of the year defeating Meadville 33-6 Friday night at Meadville. 

Cole Cook went 6-for-11 passing for 135 yards and one touchdown, while Norman Byerly carried the ball 12 times for 84 yards and two scores.

Meadville took a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on a 5-yard run by Josh Dracup, but Brookville came back to take a 12-6 halftime lead on second quarter touchdowns by Byerly, on a 3-yard run, and Matt Mellilo, on a 60-yard interception return.

Brookville then took a 19-6 lead on a 41-yard run by Ben Daniels in the third quarter before putting the game away on a 2-yard run by Byerly and a 30-yard pass from Cook to Richards in the fourth quarter.  

REDBANK VALLEY 20, UNION 0

NEW BETHLEHEM – Ron Geist ran for 130 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries while also throwing a touchdown pass to lead Redbank Valley (3-6 overall, 3-5 KSAC) to a 20-0 win over Union (1-8, 1-7) Friday night at Redbank Valley.

Geist’s touchdown run, a 3-yard scamper, came with 9:41 left in the first quarter after a bad snap punt by Union gave the Bulldogs the ball at the Union 3-yard line.

Redbank Valley used a good special teams play to score its second touchdown, as Tyson Shreckengost ran a fake field goal into the end zone for a 13-0 lead.

The Bulldogs then used the halfback pass from Geist to Tyson Truitt for 17 yards and a third score.

The Redbank Valley defense was led by Tyson Truitt with two interceptions and Tyler Truitt with seven tackles and two sacks.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 53, A-C VALLEY 0

FOXBURG – Clarion-Limestone (8-1 overall, 7-1 KSAC) tuned up for the District 9 Class A playoffs with a 53-0 win over A-C Valley Friday night at A-C Valley.

The Lions had  he ball eight times in the first half and scored each time while taking a 53-0 halftime lead and letting the reserves play out the second half.

Dan Alderton led the way for the Lions with four touchdowns, two receiving and two rushing, while J.J. Ferguson was 3-for-5 passing for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Alderton caught two passes for 115 yards and added 22 yards rushing, while Chad Conti had one catch for 40 yards and a score and four rushes for 86 yards.

KARNS CITY 54, WEST SHAMOKIN 12

KARNS CITY – Erik Fuher threw for 137 yards and one touchdown to lead Karns City to a 54-12 win over West Shamokin in a game that officially clinched the KSAC title for the Gremlins (9-0 overall, 8-0 KSAC).
