SMETHPORT-CURWENSVILLE AML TITLE GAME TO BE PLAYED AT RIDGWAY OCT. 27

RIDGWAY – Defending Allegheny Mountain League champion Curwensville will take on undefeated Smethport in this year's AML Championship game scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27, in Ridgway. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Curwensville, 6-1 entering Friday's game with Kane, turned in a perfect regular season a year ago and capped it off with a 33-21 win over Port Allegany in the AML Championship game in Johnsonburg.

Smethport, meanwhile, returns to the AML title game after clinching the North Division title. The Hubbers won AML titles in 1992, 1994, 1997 and 1998.

Both teams clinched bids in the District 9 Class A playoffs. Their first-round pairings won't be determined until after next week's games. The winner of the game will be the AML’s automatic representative and will host a playoff game in Round One, while the loser will go into the playoffs as a wild card team and be on the road in Round One. A Smethport win would also lock up the top seed in the playoffs as long as the Hubbers beat Youngsville Friday night, while Curwensville would need to beat Kane Friday night and Smethport in the AML Title game and hope for a Clarion-Limestone loss in its final two games in order to claim the top seed.

The game will be broadcast by WDBA-FM (107.3 or 103.7) in DuBois and WQRM-FM (106.3) in Smethport.
