RIMERSBURG – Clarion senior running back Kyle Cathcart became the all-time District 9 touchdown king when he scored three times in the Bobcats 33-0 win over Union Monday night at Union.

With the three scores, Cathcart now has 58 career touchdowns, one more than Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio had in his career which ended last season.

"It just a record," Cathcart said. "The important thing is we won the game."

The record-breaking score came with 9:21 left in the game on a 7-yard run. Cathcart, who rushed for 255 yards in the game, had tied Cantafio’s record with a 35-yard scoring jaunt with 10:10 left in the third quarter.

Cathcart said he could go up and down a list thanking people for helping him reach the touchdown record.

"I have to mention a few people first," Cathcart said. "My dad, Jess Quinn. I can’t say enough about Jess Quinn. He couldn’t catch this year, but he has always been there. He comes to as many games as he can. Coach Wiser, the offensive line, Mr. Wagner (Asst. coach Brad Wager), who helped me train so well in the off season. That’s about it."

Clarion head coach Larry Wiser was happy to see Cathcart break the record.

"I was happy to see him and happy for the team that he got the District 9 touchdown record," Wiser said.

One of Cathcart’s offensive linemen, senior tackle Josh Wolff, was glad to see Cathcart get the record and proud to say he blocked for him.

"It is especially nice watching Kyle run," Wolff said. "I am proud to say that I can look back some day and say I blocked for Kyle Cathcart. "

Cathcart’s quarterback and fellow senior and probably best friend Ben Bevevino was very happy for him as well.

"That was huge," Bevevino said. "We knew that whole drive we needed to get Kyle in because he needed one more. Kyle has been my best friend since I moved here in first grade. So it felt really nice getting him that touchdown. I was proud to pitch him the ball there."

On the season, Cathcart has now rushed for 753 yards and 11 touchdown in only three games on only 68 carries. He is averaging 11.1 yards per carry and scores one in every six times he touches the ball.
