CLARION-LIMESTONE TOPS ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC

NOV. 5, 2004 - District 9 Class A Quarterfinals

STRATTANVILLE -- Clarion-Limestone beat Elk County Catholic 27-6 in the opening round of the District 9 Class A Playoffs Friday night at C-L.

Erik White caught two touchdown passes from Scott Davis, and Trevor Williams and Tuffy Brooks also ran for touchdowns for the Lions (9-1).

ECC thwarted the shutout attempt when Andy Herbstritt scored on a 77-yard run with 3:10 left in the game.

Anthony Tettis, playing for the first time since Week Six ran for 68 yards on 18 carries, as ECC ran for 204 yards on 37 carries in the game. It marked the third straight week the Lions have allowed a team more than 200 yards on the ground.

"We did some real nice things, but their speed hurt us," Elk County Catholic head coach Joe Renwick said. "Overall, this was a good season. We went from 1-9 last year to 5-5 this year. We thought we might be able to use our size to our advantage against C-L, but we made too many mistakes.

"We were banged up a lot of the season. But we have 16 juniors this season that we can build around."
