COUDERSPORT PULLS AWAY FROM SMETHPORT IN D9 CLASS A PLAYOFFS

NOV. 6, 2004 - District 9 Class A Quarterfinals

COUDERSPORT – Coudersport scored 20 unanswered points to pull away from Smethport 34-6 in the opening round of the District 9 Class A Playoffs Saturday night at Coudersport.

It was the second win of the season for the Falcons (9-1) over the Hubbers (6-4). Coudersport now travels to Clarion-Limestone for a semifinal game starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Falcons were the last team to beat C-L in the District 9 playoffs knocking off the Lions in Clyde Conti’s final game as head coach at C-L in 2001.

Coudersport led 14-0 at halftime on a 44-yard pass from John Gerhart to Mike Kehr and a 21-yard pass from Gerhart to Cavallari.

A 1-yard Mike Mitchell run cut the lead to 14-6 in the third quarter, but a 65-yard run by Cavallari made it 21-7 at the end of three.

Mike Goga then caught a 6-yard pass from Gerhart in the fourth quarter, and Babcock scored on a 27-yard run to put the game away.

Coudersport has now won four straight against their rivals after Smethport had won 14 of 15 from 1989-2001.
