SIPES BROTHERS GO WILD IN CURWENSVILLE WIN OVER JOHNSONBURG

JOHNSONBURG – It was the Sipes show Saturday night in Johnsonburg, as Nick and Nate Sipes combined to rush for 452 yards and four touchdowns to lead Curwensville to a 48-0 win over Johnsonburg.

Nick Sipes ran 18 times for 215 and three touchdowns while older brother Nate picked up 19 carries for 237 yards and one score. To add to a great night, Nate also intercepted a pass on defense.

Shawn Sopic added a touchdown run and a touchdown pass for the Golden Tide (3-0) while passing for 71 yards.

Johnsonburg, already playing without injured quarterback Anthony Imbrogno, lost sophomore running back Calvin Grumley, who ran for nearly 200 yards last week, to injury early in the second quarter. Grumley was taken off the field on a stretcher, but the extent of his injury is not yet known. Grumley was subbing for T.S. Launer, who was injured in the pre-game warm-ups last week. Launer didn’t have a carry against Curwensville.

With out its three of its top offensive players, the Rams managed just 47 yards of total offense on the night. Curwensville racked up 564 yards including 493 on the ground.

The Golden Tide led just 15-0 at halftime thanks to a 1-yard run by Sopic and a 12-yard scamper by Nick Sipes.

Curwensville broke the game wide open with 27 unanswered points in the third quarter scoring on a 15-yard pass from Sopic to Dean Swatsworth, who finished with three catches for 70 yards, a 15-yard run by Nate Sipes, a 73-yard sprint by Nick Sipes and a 43-yard scamper by Nick Sipes.

Adam Pennington’s 5-yard run midway through the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

Jesse Dennis was 7-for-13 passing for 33 yards and an interception, while Josh Feronti had 11 yards rushing and 11 yards receiving.
