JOHNSTON, SKYLER SMITH LEAD REDBANK VALLEY PAST BROOKVILLE

NEW BETHLEHEM – Brandon Johnston and Skyler Smith each scored two touchdowns to lead the Redbank Valley Bulldogs to a 34-7 victory over visiting Brookville in non-conference action on Homecoming Thursday night.

Redbank Valley (3-2) outgained Brookville, 360-247, and rushed for 272 yards. Johnston’s two big TD runs of 54 an d 67 yards accounted for the bulk of his 160 yards on only eight carries.

Skyler Smith opened the game’s scoring when he caught a 29-yard TD pass from quarterback Jason Smith. He also rushed for a 10-yard score to put the Bulldogs up for good in the second quarter.

Brookville (1-4) scored its only touchdown on Levi Singleton’s 1-yard run, tying it at 7-7 at the 11:08 mark of the second quarter.

But the Bulldogs scored four unanswered touchdowns to break the game wide open. Johnston’s 54-yarder made it 20-7 with 2:19 left in the first half. His 67-yard dash came at the 2:56 mark of the third quarter.

Bryce Miller added Redbank Valley’s final score on a 9-yard run with 2:40 left in the game.

Redbank Valley QB Jason Smith completed 5 of 9 passes for 88 yards and was intercepted once. Skyler Smith caught two passes for 51 yards.

Defensively, linebacker Zach Wanninger had a big game, intercepting two passes from Brookville QB Nick Heschke. He also recovered a fumble. Brandon Doverspike also picked off a Heschke pass and linebacker Ryan Toth had at least two sacks.

Singleton led the Raiders rushers with 76 yards on nine carries. Heschke completed 6 of 22 passes for 76 yards.

Brookville made four turnovers while Redbank Valley gave the ball away twice. In five Redbank Valley games, there have been 31 turnovers, 16 by the Bulldogs and 15 by their opponents.

Both teams are off until Oct. 8. Brookville travels to Bradford while Redbank Valley visits A-C Valley in a big Class AA showdown between two 3-2 teams.
