SHEFFIELD 29, CAMERON COUNTY 0

SHEFFIELD – Jeremy Borst ran, threw and kicked for points while also playing a little defense to lead Sheffield (2-4) to a 29-0 win over visiting Cameron County (0-6) Saturday afternoon.

Borst threw touchdowns passes of 60 and 11 yards to Walt Elmquist, ran for a 10-yard score, and kicked a 24-yard field goal and two extra points for theWolverines. He also came up with an interception on defense.

Borst was 8-for-12 passing for 150 yards and ran seven times for 11 yards, as Sheffield outgained Cameron County 275 yards to 143.

Elmquist had two catches for 71 yards and the two touchdowns, while Steve Sixt had three grabs for 45 yards and ran four times for 19 more yards.

Cash Grimone ran 13 times for 39 yards for Cameron County.

Sheffield picked off Cameron quarterback Brian Hastings four times in the game.

KARNS CITY 20, MONITEAU 7

KARNS CITY – Karns City (3-3 overall, 2-3 KSAC) broke a two-game losing streak with a 20-7 win over rival Moniteau (4-2, 3-1) Friday night at Karns City.

The loss was the second straight for the Warriors, who started the year 4-0.

Karns City built a 20-0 halftime lead on big plays and then held on in the second half to secure the victory.

The Gremlins scored first on a 9-yard run by Josh Fiscus 2:57 into the game.

The score remained 7-0 until 4:19 left in the half when Steve Black threw a screen pass to Fiscus that went 59 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Then with 2:12 left in the half, Steve Black found older brother Dave Black with a 70-yard scoring strike making it 20-0 at halftime.

Moniteau cut the lead to 20-7 with 3:32 left in the third quarter on a 3-yard run by Matt Schandelmeier, but that was all the Warriors could muster.

Karns City penalties, especially in the second half, prevented the Gremlins from breaking the game open.

The Gremlins drew 15 flags for 112 yards in the game including 11 for 92 in the second half.

Steve Black was 7-for-14 passing for 195 yards and two scores to lead Karns City, while Dave Black had two catches for 90 yards. Fiscus added two grabs for 60 yards and a score and ran 20 times for 66 yards and another touchdown.

Schandelmeier led Moniteau with 24 carries for 107 yards, but the Warriors pass game wasn’t there. Quarterback Garth Kohlmeyer played the game with a bad throwing shoulder wand was 0-for-9 passing with three interceptions after throwin just one interception in the first five weeks.

NOTES – The win keeps alive Karns City quest for its eighth straight District 9 playoff spot … The Class AA bracket is an open bracket, but Karns City head coach Ed Conto told the Butler Eagle the Gremlins will only go if they have a better than .500 record.

BALD EAGLE AREA 50, KEYSTONE 7

KNOX – Bald Eagle Area (2-4) scored 36 unanswered points in the final quarter and a half to topple Keystone (1-5) 50-7 in non-conference action Friday night at Knox.

A 1-yard run by Korban Mohney had gotten Keystone to within seven points, 14-7, midway through the third quarter. But Bald Eagle put the game away with three touchdowns in less than three minutes following Mohney’s score.

John Michael Jones caught a 37-yard pass from Camdin Crouse to make it 21-7, Angel Resto scored on a 39-yard run and Crouse on 41-yard run.

Jones then caught an 8-yard pass from Crouse and Jim Brooks scored on a 2-yard run for the 43-point win.

Bald Eagle scored 40 seconds into the game on a 16-yard run by Seth Nyman following a long return of the opening kickoff.

The game remained 7-0 until three minutes remained in the first half when Jonathan Rishell scored on a 5-yard tote making it 14-0 Bald Eagle at halftime.

Rishell led Bald Eagle with 150 yards rushing and a touchdown. Crouse was 6-for-11 passing for 110 yards and two scores.

Sam Swartzfager led Keystone with 26 carries for 124 yards. 

CLEARFIELD 28, HUNTINGDON 14

HUNTINGDON – Josh Harbold ran 20 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns to lead Clearfield (6-0 overall, 4-0 Mountain Athletic Conference-Seven Mountain Division) to a 28-14 win over Huntingdon (3-3, 2-2) Friday night in Huntingdon.

With the win the Bisons clinch the first-ever MAC-SMD crown.

Tanner Kelly had a 66-yard touchdown pass to Michael Scoggins and a 1-yard quarterback sneak for the other two Clearfield scores.

Brandon Spayd led the Bearcats with 120 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Matt Toung was 9-for-12 passing for 130 yards and also ran for a touchdown.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 25, LEWISTOWN 14

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Adam McCully rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns to lead Punxsutawney (2-4, 2-2 Mountain Athletic Conference-Seven Mountain Division) to a 25-14 win over visiting Lewistown (0-6, 0-3) Friday night.

McCully scored on runs of 22 and 5 yards to break a four-game losing streak for the Chucks.

Chad Snook led Lewistown going 11-for-23 passing for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He threw three interceptions. Chris Tressler had 18 carries for 77 yards and six catches for 61 yards and score. Jeremy Moist caught the other Lewistown touchdown.

DUBOIS 47, ST. MARYS 7

ST. MARYS – DuBois (4-2 overall, 3-0 D9 League) built a 28-0 halftime lead and led 41-0 early in the fourth quarter on its way to a 47-7 win over St. Marys (0-5, 0-3) Friday night in St. Marys.

Mike Stewart rushed 19 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and Vance Newell added 16 carries for 117 yards and score for DuBois. The Beavers outgained St. Marys 466 yards to 89 and had 32 first downs to four by the Dutchmen.

Quarterback Joe Wanson also had a solid game for DuBois going 9-for-11 passing for 98 yards and running for a score as well.

DuBois led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Wanson and then added three touchdowns in the final 6:05 of the first half.

Ryan Liddle scored on a 15-yard run with 6:05 left, Stewart on a 3-yard tote with 1:35 to go and Stewart on a 19-yard gallop with 55 seconds left.

The Beavers made it 34-0 at the end of three quarters thanks to a 21-yard run by Robbie Hanzley, and Newell’s 3-yard run with 10:34 left in the game made it 41-0.

St. Marys’ lone score came when Steve Gaul returned the kickoff following Newell’s score 83 yards for a touchdown.

David Smith had a 5-yard run with three minutes left to close out the scoring for DuBois.

Scott Schatz (8 carries, 31 yards) and Adam Geer (7 carries, 24 yards) paced St. Marys. Gaul added an interception for the Dutchmen.

BROCKWAY 43, KANE 14

KANE – Bobby Liddle ran nine times for 125 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Brockway (5-1) to a 43-14 win over winless Kane (0-6) Friday night in Kane.

Brockway led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter and 30-6 at halftime.

Matt Foradora was 8-for-8 passing for 158 yards and a touchdown for the Rovers with Lenny Calhoun catching three passes for 45 yards, Joe Antonuccio two for 54 and Liddle two for 23.

Joe Lyle picked up two interceptions on defense for Brockway.

Mike Giordano was 9-for-29 passing for 129 yards, 1 touchdowns and two interceptions for Kane with Paul Eastman catching four passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Giordano also ran 19 times for 109 yards and a score.

CURWENSVILLE 78, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY – Curwensville (6-0) handed Ridgway (1-5) its second worst loss since 1926 78-0 at Ridgway Friday night.

The Elkers worst loss was a 90-0 drubbing by DuBois in 1926, but the game marked the second time in six years Ridgway has allowed 70 points in a game. Cameron County knocked off the Elkers 72-6 in 1999.

The win coupled with an Elk County Catholic victory over Johnsonburg, sewed up the Golden Tides first playoff berth since the 2001 season.

Once again it was the Sipes and Sipes show for Curwensville with older brother Nate rushing 14 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns and younger brother Nick getting eight carries for 146 yards and four touchdowns. Two of Nate’s scores and three of Nick’s came in the first half when Curwensville built a 48-0 halftime lead.

The brothers then each added third-quarter scores for the Golden Tide who led 62-0 at the end of three.

Curwensville also scored 16 points on special teams with a punt return (75 yards by Bart McGary), a free kick return (67 yards by Dean Swatsworth) and a safety on a bad snap.

Nate Sipes had a 12-yard touchdown run 18 seconds into the game to get the scoring started for the Golden Tide, and Nick Sipes added first-quarter runs of 2-and 8-yards to build a 21-0 lead at the end of one quarter.

A 41-yard run by Nick Sipes made it 27-0 with 7:50 left in the first half, and then the safety on the bad snap made it 29-0 with 5:55 to go.

Swatsworth returned the ensuing free kick 67 yards for a score making it 36-0, and McGary punt return upped the total to 42-0 with 2:48 to go in the half. Nate Sipes closed out the first-half scoring with a 6-yard run with 58 seconds to go.

Nate Sipes then started the third-quarter scoring with a 62-yard run 37 seconds into the half, and Nick Sipes added a 49-yard run with 8:12 to go in the third quarter.

A 19-yard run by Matt Holland and a 23-yard scamper by Adam Pennington in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

Curwensville outgained Ridgway 439-40 including 439 to 18 on the ground. The Golden Tide had 18 first downs to four by Ridgway. Curwensville didn’t attempt a pass in the game.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 16, JOHNSONBURG 13

JOHNSONBURG – Ed Geci’s 31-yard field goal as time expired lifted Elk County Catholic (4-2) to a 16-13 come-from-behind win over Johnsonburg Friday night at Johnsonburg (2-4).

The Crusaders trailed 13-7 heading into the fourth quarter but tied the game on a 1-yard run by Nick Bojalad with 2:17 to play and then won it Geci field goal.

ECC did suffer some bad news when running back Anthony Tettis was hurt early in the game after carrying the ball three times for 30 yards. He didn’t return, and his status for next week is unclear.

ECC led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Scott Meholic with 49 seconds left in the quarter.

Johnsonburg tied the game at seven with just 12 seconds left in the first half on a 1-yard run by Anthony Imbrogno.

A 2-yard run by Josh Feronti with 8:50 to go in the third quarter gave the Rams a 13-7 lead.

Kyle Mahoney had a big night for ECC going 15-for-22 passing for 142 yards and rushing six times for 43 yards. Meholic added six carries for 34 yards and two catches for 21.

Feronti (20 carries, 91 yards) and Jesse Dennis (19 carries, 86 yards) combined to rush for 177 yards for the Rams.

BRADFORD 37, BROOKVILLE 18

BRADFORD – Bradford (4-2 overall, 3-0 D9 League) used a 24-0 run in the second half to break open a 1-point halftime lead on its way a 37-18 win over Brookville (1-5, 1-2) Friday night at Bradford.

The Owls led 13-12 at the half but scored 17 unanswered third-quarter points to take a 30-12 lead at the end of three. Bradford then scored midway through the fourth quarter to make it 37-12 before Brookville got a meaningless touchdown with five seconds left in the game.

The game was tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter thanks a 1-yard run by Travis Diener for Brookville with four minutes to go in the quarter and a 60-yard jaunt by Morgan O’Brien for Bradford with 3:30 left.

Brookville went back ahead with 4:30 to go in the first half on a 9-yard pass from Nick Heschke to Matt Mohney, but the extra point was blocked.

Bradford then took the lead for good on an 8-yard Mike Austin run with 3:21 to play in the half and Kyle Macfarlane’s extra point.

The Owls started to pull away in the third quarter when Dave Snyder scored on a 4-yard run with 9:35 left in the quarter, and Macfarlane connected on a 36-yard field goal with 5:24 to play. Austin then scored on a 7-yard run with 3:50 left before adding a 4-yard run with 4:01 left in the game.

Silas Wonderling’s 4-yard run with five seconds left closed out the scoring.

Diener ran 11 times for 78 yards for Brookville, Matt Berfield added 13 totes for 65 yards, Heschke 11 for 57 yards, Wonderling eight for 37 and Levi Singleton six for 30.

O’Brien led Bradford with 10 carries for 107 yards, Austin had eight for 47 and Snyder seven for 40.

Heschke was 5-for-12 passing for 64 yards and two interceptions, while Austin was 3-for-5 for 79 yards.

Mohney had three catches for 41 yards for Brookville, while Shawn Spindler had all three grabs for Bradford. Spindler and O’Brien each came up with interceptions on defense for the Owls.

COUDERSPORT 27, SMETHPORT 14

SMETHPORT – Coudersport outscored Smethport 10-0 in the second half to defeat its archrival 27-14 and clinch its fourth consecutive District 9 Class A playoff berth. It is the ninth overall District 9 playoff appearance for the Falcons (6-0).

Smethport (3-3) led 14-10 late in the first half when Coudersport used some trickery to gain momentum.

The Falcons used a lateral-flanker touchdown pass of 76 yards from Sam Decker to Rob Cavallari to take a 17-14 halftime lead.

Decker caught the lateral from quarterback John Gerhart and then hit Cavallari with the touchdown pass.

Coudersport led 7-0 early on a 29-yard pass from Gerhart o Steve Bernard, but Smethport tied the game on a 37-yard run by Mike Mitchell.

Coudersport took a 10-7 lead in the second quarter on a 25-yard Caleb Morris field goal before a 1-yard run by Zach Parkes put Smethport back in front. The touchdown came two plays following a fumbled punt at the 2-yard line by Coudersport.

In the third quarter, Coudersport used a 2-yard run by David Babcock to make it 24-14, and a 23-yard field goal by Morris in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

Three of Coudersport’s five scoring drives were 10 plays or longer including a 16-play, 74-yard drive that resulted in Morris’ first field goal, an 11-play, 65-yard march that ended with Babcock’s touchdown and a 16-play, 72-yard drive that concluded with Morris’ second field goal.

Overall, Coudersport outgained Smethport 441 yards to 110 including 232-5 passing. The Falcons ran 70 plays to 33 for Smethport, and Coudersport didn’t have to punt the ball. Smethport punted five times. Turnovers hurt Coudersport early, as the Falcons fumbled once and threw two interceptions in the first half.

Babcock ran 29 times for 110 yards and a touchdown for Coudersport, while Cavallari had seven catches for 158 yards and a score. Gerhart was 10-for-13 passing for 156 yards, 1 touchdown and two interceptions.

Mitchell led Smethport running 17 times for 114 yards and one score.

NOTES – Coudersport has now won three straight from Smethport, the first time the Falcons have won at least three in a row against the Hubbers since taking three straight from 1986-88. Smethport had won 14 of 15 against Coudersport including 13 in a row in the regular-season from 1989-2001 before Coudersport started its current streak with a 20-7 win in 2002 … Smethport leads the overall series, which has been played 96 times since 1916, 57-35-4.

REDBANK VALLEY 35, A-C VALLEY 20

FOXBURG – Skyler Smith ran 20 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns and returned a kickoff for a third to lead visiting Redbank Valley (4-2 overall, 3-1 KSAC) to a 35-20 win over A-C Valley (3-3, 1-3).

The win was the third straight for the Bulldogs, while A-C Valley had its three-game win streak snapped.

Redbank Valley led 21-0 late in the first half before A-C Valley blocked a punt in the end zone to cut the Bulldog advantage to 21-8 at halftime.

But Smith returned the second-half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and a 28-8 lead.

Smith scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and a 6-yard scamper in the second quarter, while Bryce Miller had a 23-yard run in the first quarter and Brandon Johnston a 10-yard tote in the second half.

A-C Valley got two third-quarter touchdowns on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Brad Rembold to Luiz Goncalves and a 16-yard scoring strike from Rembold to Goncalves.

Miller added 56 yards rushing on four carries for Redbank Valley.

Goncalves, who was moved from quarterback to running back, had 16 carries for 55 yards, while Rocco Crapis had 18 totes for 42 yards. Rembold was 3-for-9 passing for 77 yards in his

COCHRANTON 28, UNION 6

RIMERSBURG – In a battle of winless teams, Cochranton (1-5) got its first win of the season 28-6 over Union (0-6) Friday night at Union.

The Golden Knights have now lost 17 straight games.

Union actually led 6-0 on a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown by Brett Moore. But Tony Mase ran for two touchdowns to lead Cochranton to the win.
