BROCKWAY 64, RIDGWAY 12

BROCKWAY – Everything was working Friday night for Brockway (7-1), as the Rovers rolled up 541 yards of total offense in a 64-12 win over Ridgway (1-7) Friday night at Brockway.

Joe Lyle had three catches for 90 yards and two scores for the Rovers.

Brockway led 27-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 16-yard Bobby Liddle run, a 7-yard run by Lenny Calhoun, a 69-yard pass from Foradora to Lyle and a 38-yard pass from Foradora to Joe Antonuccio.

JOHNSONBURG 12, KANE 8

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg (3-5) kept its District 9 Class A playoff hopes breathing with a hard-fought 12-8 win over visiting Kane (1-7) Friday night.

The Rams can clinch a playoff spot with a win Saturday at Sheffield and an Otto-Eldred loss to Brockway Friday night.

Johnsonburg led 6-0 at halftime thanks to a 4-yard Bill Boylan run in the second quarter.

The Rams made it 12-0 with 8:51 left in the game on an 18-yard pass from Anthony Imbrogno to Jesse Zilcosky.

Kane came back with a 12-yard pass from Mike Giordano to Chris Barber with 4:14 to play and a two-point pass from Giordano to Colton Johnson.

Johnsonburg then recovered the on-side kick, and on fourth-and-2 from the Kane 35 Boylan was able to pick up the first down allowing the Rams to run the clock out.

Boylan led the Rams with 20 carries for 70 yards, while Imbrogno was 8-for-18 passing for 76 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Zilcosky had five catches for 43 yards.

Kyle Oakes paced Kane with 26 carries for 93 yards and one catch for 16, while Giordano was 7-for-20 passing for 86 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Paul Eastman had three catches for 43 yards.

CURWENSVILLE 70, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

CURWENSVILLE – Nate Sipes ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries for lead Curwensville (8-0) to a 70-0 win over visiting Elk County Catholic (5-3), which was still playing without leading rusher Anthony Tettis.

Curwensville has scored 70 or more points in a game twice this season while averaging 53 ppg (424 in eight games).

Nick Sipes ended the night with 15 carries for 187 yards.

ECC managed only 77 yards of total offense including just 25 yards rushing on 24 carries.

SMETHPORT 39, CAMERON COUNTY 7

EMPORIUM – Zach Parkes, Tyler Covert and Josh Switzer each scored two touchdowns to lead Smethport (5-3) to a 39-7 win over Cameron County (0-8) Friday night at Cameron County.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 46, UNION 25

HERMITAGE – Union (0-8) played its best game of the season but it wasn’t enough Kennedy Catholic (6-2), as the Golden Eagles came away with a 46-25 win over the visiting Golden Knights Saturday afternoon.

"I made a couple of moves, which seems to have helped somewhat," Union head coach Tom Kidder, whose team had scored just 30 points going into the game, said. "But we were still no match for them up front."

Union actually outgained Kennedy Catholic 328-301 in the game while causing three Golden Eagle turnovers including two fumble recoveries by Tom Rainey.

Josh Holden was 2-for-5 passing for 112 yards and two touchdowns for Union with Brett Moore catching three passes for 124 yards and two scores.

Colton Davis ran 16 times for 103 yards, while Clint Lineman had 14 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

COUDERSPORT 40, OTTO-ELDRED 13

COUDERSPORT – Mike Kehr, returning from an injury that has kept him out most of the season, caught five passes and two touchdowns to lead Coudersport (8-0) to a 40-13 win over visiting Otto-Eldred (3-5).

The loss put on hold any playoff plans for the Terrors, who could have wrapped up a District 9 Class A berth with a win. Now Otto needs to beat Brockway next week or get some help from Johnsonburg and Keystone, who would both have to lose if the Terrors would lose.

No other stats were reported for this game.

BRADFORD 49, KARNS CITY 10

KARNS CITY – At least for one night, the 2004 version of the Bradford Owls looked like the 2003 version of Bradford in a 49-10 win at Karns City Friday night.

The Owls (5-3), who came into the game averaging just 154.3 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry, ran 40 times for 376 yards and six touchdowns averaging 9.4 yards per game.

Morgan O’Brien (9 carries, 123 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Josh Holleran (10 carries, 106 yards, 1 touchdown) each ran for over 100 yards for Bradford, while Nate Westlake (9 carries, 98 yards, 1 touchdowns) just missed the mark.

Bradford did most of its damage in the first half building a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and making it 35-10 at halftime.

Karns City (4-4) got the scoring started on a 33-yard field goal by Luke McClaine early in the first quarter.

But Bradford answered back with a 75-yard scoring run by O’Brien and a 24-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Garrett McEwen.

The Owls then made it 21-3 on a 1-yard Mike Austin run before Stephen Black hit David Black with a 21-yard scoring toss to cut the lead to 21-10 with 8:26 left in the first half.

Scoring runs of 1 yards by Dave Snyder and 14 yards by Westlake made it 35-21 at halftime.

The score remained that way until the fourth quarter when O’Brien scored on a 24-yard run at the 11:33 mark and Holleran on a 2-yard run at 10:36.

Kyle Macfarlane hit all seven extra points for the Owls.

Stephen Black was 15-for-21 passing for 146 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while David Black catching seven passes for 96 yards and Kyle Texter six for 88. Josh Fiscus was held to 18 yards rushing on seven carries, while Wayne Harris had 10 totes for 37 yards.

KEYSTONE 21, A-C VALLEY 0

KNOX – Sam Swartzfager ran for 120 yards and one touchdown and set Keystone’s all-time rushing record while helping the Panthers (2-6) upset A-C Valley (3-5) and keep their playoff hopes alive with a 21-0 win Friday night at Keystone.

Swartzfager, who also returned an interception 55 yards for a score, now has 2,234 career rushing yards topping the previous mark of 2,166 set by Chad Nellis, the brother of current Keystone head coach Jason Nellis.

The win coupled with Otto-Eldred’s loss to Coudersport keeps Keystone’s slim D9 Class A playoff hopes alive. The Panthers can only clinch a berth if they beat Redbank Valley next week and Otto-Eldred and Johnsonburg each lose. Otto plays Brockway for the second time in three weeks (Brockway won the first go round), while Johnsonburg meets Sheffield.

All of Keystone’s scoring came in the first half with two first-quarter touchdowns and a second-quarter score.

The first score came with 3:04 left in the opening quarter on a 38-yard pass from Mike Switzer to Kyle McMunn. It was Switzer’s only completion, on five attempts, of the night.

Then with 1:55 left in the quarter, Swartzfager found pay dirt on a 7-yard run making it 14-0.

Midway through the second quarter, Swartzfager intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

Keystone’s defense, meanwhile, shutdown the A-C Valley offense limiting it to 187 yards including 154 rushing and picking off Falcon quarterbacks three times.

Swartzfager had 14 tackles, and Dan Irwin 11.

Rocco Crapis ran for 61 yards and Luiz Goncalves 68 for the Falcons.
