CLARION-LIMESTONE, CLARION, CURWENSVILLE, COUDERSPORT QUALIFY FOR DISTRICT 9 CLASS A PLAYOFFS

Four District 9 Class A teams clinched playoff berths Friday night.

Clarion-Limestone (6-0) secured its fifth straight playoff spot with a 28-12 win over Clarion, while the Bobcats (5-1) also qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2000 thanks to Elk County Catholic 16-13 win over Johnsonburg.

The ECC win over Johnsonburg coupled with Coudersport 27-14 win over Smethport qualified the Falcons (6-0) for the fourth consecutive season, and the ECC win coupled with Curwensville’s 79-0 thumping of Ridgway got the Golden Tide (6-0) into the postseason for the first time since 2001.

The District 9 playoff berth is the 12th all-time for the Lions in the 18 years (1987-2004) District 9 has been sponsoring a post-season competition. That ties C-L with Brookville for the most-ever appearances in the postseason, and the Lions are the only Class A team to qualify that many times. Coudersport has qualified for the ninth time, Clarion for the eighth time and Curwensville for the third time.
