CONSISTENT BROCKWAY WILL BE INEXPERIENCED THIS SEASON

Information for this story was found in the Aug. 29 Tri-County Sunday of DuBois.

BROCKWAY – Brockway has been one of the most consistent football teams in District 9 over the past season and a half winning 15 of its past 17 games dating back to late in the 2002 season.

Last season the Rovers posted an 11-1 overall record while winning AML-South and AML titles as well as their second consecutive District 9 Class AA title.

Brockway, though, has to replace eight offensive starters and nine defensive starters from last season.

"We lost just about all of our starters from last year," Brockway’s 20th-year head coach Ray Reckner, who has a record of 109-79-3 at the school, told the Tri-County Sunday in DuBois. "We’re going to be lacking some experience, but I don’t think we’re going to be lacking talent. We have some kids who could have played on a lot of other teams last year. They just happened to be playing positions where we had a lot of good players."

On offense, Brockway returns three starters in seniors Matt Foradora and juniors Ben Donlin and Matt Ehrgott with the latter two being just juniors.

Foradora, a spilt end last season who caught eight passes for 170 yards and five scores, will most likely be the starting quarterback this year.

Donlin, meanwhile, is moving from tight end to fullback after catching six passes for 141 yards a season ago.

Ehrgott will be the lone returning starter on the offensive line.

"Getting people in the right position is going to be key this year," Reckner told the TCS. "We’re moving people around, hopefully we will make the right decisions."

Joining Foradora and Donlin in the all-important backfield (Brockway is historically a team that likes three backs and wants to run the ball having been second District 9 last season averaging 251.3 yards per game on the ground – 76% of its total offense) will be seniors Bobby Liddle and Lenny Calhoun.

Liddle was the fourth leading rusher for the Rovers last season with 22 carries for 197 yards and a touchdown despite never touching the ball more than four times in any game and not having a carry after Week Six.

Calhoun added 155 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and was the fifth leading rusher for the Rovers.

The big key for Brockway, as it is for many District 9 teams this year, will be how its offensive line comes together with Ehrgott the only returning starter.

"Our offensive line is very questionable," Reckner told the TCS. "They’re going to have to prove themselves. I think they have a lot of potential, but we’re not that deep. We have a lot of linemen, just not a lot that have a lot of experience."

On defense, Brockway returns Calhoun, Liddle and Foradora, who have saw plenty of time in the secondary but little else.
