STRATTANVILLE - The Clarion-Limestone Lions picked up their first win of the year with a 21-12 victory over the A-C Valley Falcons Friday night. “We have such a young team and I am so happy for them tonight,” C-L coach Todd Smith said. Dan Miller led the way for the Lions (1-2 overall, 1-2 KSAC) going 10 of 33 passing for 121 yards while also rushing three times for five yards and two touchdowns, both on 1-yard runs. Zac Roller added 15 carries for 98 yards. The game was a tossup until Miller’s 1-yard touchdown run with 8:34 left gave C-L a two-touchdown lead at 21-12. “Our kids really battled hard tonight,” A-C Valley head coach Gary Pinkerton said. “Our program has come a long way the last couple of years.” C-L jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter thanks to Miller’s first scoring run, and a Mike White 2-yard run 36 seconds into the second quarter. Miller’s score was set up when facing fourth-and-1 from its own 15, A-C Valley (0-3, 0-3) tried a fake punt that the Lions stopped. That led to a three-play, 15-yard drive that gave C-L a 6-0 lead. “That was a big momentum swing for us,” Smith said. A-C Valley got back into the game about 10 minutes after White’s touchdown run when Luke Walker capped off a 10-play, 58-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 14-6 at halftime. Walker, who ran 16 times for 63 yards, then got A-C Valley back within two on a 4-yard run with 4:51 left in the third quarter. The Falcons went for the tie but missed the 2-point conversion. “Give a lot of credit to A-C Valley tonight,” Smith said. “They are a good football team.” Dillion Montgomery led A-C Valley with 109 yards on 15 carries. He became A-C Valley’s first 100-yard rusher since Nov. 4, 2005, when Mike Himes ran for 103 yards in a 27-14 loss at Lakeview. Montgomery added three catches for 17 yards. Both teams return to action next Friday with games in Butler County. C-L travels to Karns City, while A-C Valley journeys to Moniteau trying to break its 25-game losing streak.
