NEW BETHLEHEM – Alex Bladel of Redbank Valley became the latest member of the 3,000-yard rushing club when he ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-0 win over visiting Punxsutawney Friday night.

Bladel, who needed 48 yards coming into the game to get to 3,000 career yards, surpassed the mark on a 14-yard touchdown run 58 seconds into the game. He also added an 11-yard score early in the fourth quarter to extend the Bulldog lead to 20-0.

“I can’t say enough about him,” first-year Redbank Valley head coach Brandon Rapp said. “He’s a great kid and has earned it. He’s exactly what you want in a football player. He works hard for everything he has gotten and is just outstanding. His teammates wanted him to get it more than he wanted it.”

With the 165-yard performance, Bladel now has 3,117 career rushing yards.

Redbank Valley (6-1 overall, 6-1 KSAC) limited Punxsutawney (2-5, 2-4) to 185 yards of total offense, although the Chucks did posses the ball for 31:05. Penalties – seven for 48 yards – and three interceptions hurt Punxsy, which saw its two-game win streak snapped.

“Turnovers and penalties killed us tonight and have killed us all year,” Punxsy head coach Blake Moilan said. “We have to do better taking care of the ball. We are going to set a goal for a 5-5 season. That would be a good season for us.”

In between Bladel touchdown runs, Jerrett Magagnotti returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown giving Redbank Valley a 14-0 halftime lead.

Brennan Niver led Punxsy with eight carries for 43 yards while Ben Blazavich chipped in 40 yards rushing, 13 yards receiving and 49 yards passing.

Bladel added 11 tackles and a sack, while Pat Goheen had two sacks and Bruce McDaniel nine tackles and an interception.

Both teams return to action next as Punxsutawney hosts Union and Redbank travels to A-C Valley.
