BROCKWAY – Jarrin Campman’s big night propelled Clearfield to the District 9 Class AAA  Championship game with a 42-20 win over St. Marys Friday night at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.

Campman accounted for over 300 yards of offense, carrying the ball 27 times for 175 yards and four touchdowns while completing 4 of 7 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.  Isiah Morgan had a solid game on the ground as well, rushing for 69 yards on 13 carries.

“Phenomenal game,” said Clearfield head coach Tim Janocko of his star quarterback’s effort. “He decided he wanted to win and he took over.”

Clearfield (9-2) never trailed in the game and was in complete control from start to finish despite allowing Kevin Hoy, Shane Krise and Mitchell Straub to each rush for over 100 yards.

“Give Saint Marys credit, they were able to keep us off-balance with their running game,” Janocko said.

With the score 21-7 at halftime, St. Marys was able to go on an 8-play 65 yard drive that ended with Shane Krise’s 6-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 21-14 early in the third quarter.

That is all the closer the Dutch got as Campman put the Bison on his back.

Just 2:05 after Krise’s run, Campman hit younger brother Trey Campman on a 17-yard touchdown pass to the corner of the end zone to put Clearfield ahead 28-14.

Following a St. Marys three and out, Campman and the Clearfield offense went back to work.

With good field position at their own 47, the Bison once again wasted little time.

Campman and running back Isiah Morgan accounted for all 53 yards on the ground, and Campman finished it off with a 1-yard touchdown plunge on the first play of the fourth quarter to put Clearfield ahead 35-14.

St. Mary’s, aided by a pass interference call on third down, was able to find the end zone one more time, as Krise scored his second touchdown of the night on a 7-yard run to make it 35-20 midway through the fourth quarter.

Campman put the finishing touch on his big night, capping a 9-play, 47-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown run on the ensuing possession to make it 42-20.

“We felt that they were ganging up on Isiah a little bit so we put some wrinkles in tonight for Jarrin to be able to run the ball,” said Janocko

The first half saw several wasted opportunities for the Dutch, as they had the ball inside the Clearfield 20-yard line twice only to come away with no points

On the opening drive the Dutch were able to drive down to the Clearfield 14 before Greg Simchick’s pass was intercepted by Trey Campman.

A Clearfield punt put gave St. Marys the ball back, but Simchick was intercepted on the very next play by Jarrin Campman, his first of two first-half interceptions.

“I give Clearfield a lot of credit,” said Saint Marys head coach Joe Schlimm. “They’re really a sound football team, and I congratulate them on their district title.

The Bison offense was able to turn the second interception into points, as Campman hooked up with Brandon Sass on 44-yard touchdown pass to the corner of the end zone to give Clearfield the early 7-0 advantage.

“Throwing the ball early helped us to spread things out and take some pressure of Jarrin,” Janocko said.

It was a rough quarter to say the least for Simchick, as he was intercepted once again by Jarrin Campman on the very next possession to set up Clearfield at midfield.

Campman then proceeded to race untouched on a 45-yard touchdown run just three plays later to give Clearfield a 14-0 lead.

Following a Simchick 1-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7, Campman went back to work accounting for his third touchdown of the half on a 6-yard touchdown run to put the Bison up 21-7.

“We knew coming in that we would have to have some fortunate things happen,” said Schlimm.  “I don’t think we played a bad game Clearfield just played an excellent game.”

Hoy lead the trio of St. Mary’s 100-yard rushers with 149 on 20 carries.  Straub had 145 yards on 13 carries while Krise carried the ball ten times for 121 yards and two scores.

Clearfield will play the winner of the Pittsburgh City League (District 8) championship game between Brashear and Perry Traditional Academy at a site and time to be determined.

NOTES – This is Clearfield’s seventh District 9 Championship, its sixth in AAA, and its first since 2005  … St. Marys has lost the last two District 9 Class AAA title games and is 0-3 all-time in title games.
