EDINBORO – Erie McDowell broke open a one-score game with 20 unanswered points in the final 13:42 to beat DuBois 40-12 in the District 6-8-9-10 Class AAAA semifinals Saturday night at Edinboro University.

DuBois (5-6) had closed a 20-6 halftime deficit to 20-12 on a 91-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Bish to Cameron Kelly – Kelly did most of the work after catching a short toss – with four minutes left in the third quarter.

But McDowell (8-3) turned to start quarterback A.J. Fenton, and Fenton responded with three touchdown runs in the final quarter plus to put the game away. The Trojan signal caller had a monster night scoring five touchdowns and running for 316 yards on just 17 carries. He found pay dirt on runs of 17, 35, 30, 37 and 54 yards and accounted for 352 of Erie McDowell’s 470 yards of offense.

Bish led DuBois with 161 yards of total offense. He ran 20 times for 53 yards and was 6 of 20 passing for 108 yards a touchdown and an interception. Les Miller also scored for DuBois and had 36 yards rushing on eight carries. McDowell limited the Beavers 1,000-yard rusher Garrett Malmgren to 14 yards on nine carries.

NOTES – Fenton, who is head to the University of Wisconsin on a football scholarship, now has 1,858 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns on the season … Malmgren finished the season with 1,065 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns and his career with 2,022 yards and 20 touchdowns … McDowell will take on State College in the D6-8-9-10 championship contest.
