ST. MARYS 21, BALD EAGLE AREA 0

WINGATE – Kevin Hoy scored two touchdowns, and the St. Marys defense played well leading the Dutch to a 21-0 win at Bald Eagle Area Friday night.

Hoy scored on runs of 11 and 7 yards in the second half, and Mitchell Straub sandwiched a 4-yard scoring run in between those two scores helping St. Marys (2-1) break a 0-0 halftime tie with 21 unanswered second-half points.

The 21 tallies were more than enough for a Dutch defense that allowed just 137 yards, all on the ground, and five first downs to Bald Eagle.

Hoy finished the game with 18 carries for 102 yards, while Straub had 13 for 80 and also caught four passes for 33 yards.

It was the second straight shutout posted by St. Marys, the second straight year the Dutch have had two consecutive shutouts.

CAMERON COUNTY 40, BROCKWAY 0

EMPORIUM – An emotional Cameron County team playing for its fallen friend and classmate Chris Purcell shutdown Brockway’s high-powered offense in a 40-0 shutout victory Friday night in Emporium.

The Rovers, who had been averaging 382 yards of offense in their first two games, were held to 209 by the Red Raider defensive including negative 15 rushing on just 13 carries.

Cameron County, meanwhile, threw just one pass the entire night, it was incomplete, but ran for 348 yards on 55 carries. Andrew Kesterholt led the way with nine carries for 154 yards including a 63-yard touchdown run that got the scoring started in the first quarter for Cameron County. Randy Schatz added 15 totes for 96 yards and a touchdown, while Jason Blose had six carries for 30 yards and three scores. Andy Lippert chipped in 15 carries for 57 yards and one touchdown.

Derek Buganza was 16 of 35 passing for 168 yards but was intercepted three times by Cameron County including twice by Daniel Sullivan.

JOHNSONBURG 7, PORT ALLEGANY 0

JOHNSONBURG – Ren Yonker’s 13-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter was all the points Johnsonburg needed in a 7-0 shutout win over visiting Port Allegany Friday night.

That’s because the Rams defense limited the Gators to 87 total yards of offense and just three first downs. Port Allegany’s defense wasn’t much worse allowing just 179 yards of offense and 12 first downs while picking off two passes and recovering a fumble.

Zane Zelehoski led Johnsonburg on the ground with 17 carries for 50 yards, while Yonker had nine for 47 and was 7 of 18 passing for 69 yards and the two picks. Craig Carrow had all seven catches.

Camrin Stuckey paced Port with five carries for 46 yards while also intercepting two passes on defense.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 9, SMETHPORT 6

ST. MARYS – Josh Catalano nailed a 28-yard field goal in overtime to lift Elk County Catholic to a 9-6 win over Smethport at Dutch Country Stadium in St. Marys Friday night.

The Crusaders (2-1 overall, 2-1 AML South) tied the game on a 1-yard Joe Jacob run with 18 seconds left in regulation but missed the extra point.

Smethport (0-3, 0-3 AML North), which has now lost leads twice in the final 20 seconds this season, broke a scoreless halftime score with a 1-yard Preston Birtcil run midway through the third quarter.

The Hubbers lost despite allowing just 98 yards of offense to ECC including 79 on the ground. The Crusaders had just six first downs and turned the ball over twice.

Smethport managed 173 yards of offense including 151 on the ground led by 83 yards on 14 carries form Kyle Nobles and 50 on 16 by Birtcil. Smethport didn’t turn the ball over.

Kyle Gerber paced ECC with 14 carries for 39 yards, while Jacob had 10 on three carries and was 3 of 13 passing for 29 yards.

CLEARFIELD 35, INDIAN VALLEY 20

CLEARFIELD – Jarrin Campman ran for 136 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries while adding 105 yards passing and a touchdown to lead Clearfield to a 35-20 win over visiting Indian Valley Friday night.

Campman scored on a run of 8, 6, 32 and 6 yards and a threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Derek Morgan while going 9 of 16 passing.

Things started badly for the Bisons (2-1) when Indian Valley’s Nickolas Myers returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead.

But Clearfield never trailed after that taking a 21-12 halftime lead.

Indian Valley (1-2) made one last run when Myers broke an 85-yard run early in the third quarter, but Campman’s 32-yard touchdown run late in the third put an end to any serious comeback attempt.

Isiah Morgan added 16 carries for 96 yards for Clearfield, while Derek Morgan had two grabs for 34 yards and the touchdown. Trey Campman added three catches for 20 yards and had an interception on defense.

Myers led Indian Valley with five carries for 130 yards and the score.

RIDGWAY 41, OTTO-ELDRED 0

DUKE CENTER – Behind 120 yards from Elliot Pontious, Ridgway rolled up 321 yards rushing on its way to a 41-0 win at Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Skraba added seven carries for 76 yards, while Joe Renaud (5 of 8, 87 yards; 2 carries, 5 yards) ran for a touchdown and threw a 20-yard scoring pass to Ben Jaques with just 30 seconds left in the first half.

Ridgway, which used a 22-point second quarter to take a 28-0 halftime lead, also got scoring runs from Cory Eshbach and Jesse Sheasley, and the Elkers defense limited Otto-Eldred (0-3, 0-3 AML North) to 66 total yards of offense including negative-14 rushing.

Shawn Barnish paced the Terrors going 5 of 12 passing for 80 yards and an interception. Matt Buck had three catches for 50 yards.

BRADFORD 41, ERIE CENTRAL 6

ERIE – Erie Central threw out the welcome mats for Bradford, and the Owls took full advantage of it ushering in its District 10 Region 6 debut with a 41-6 thumping of Central Friday night at Erie’s Veteran’s Memorial Stadium.

The Owls (2-1, 1-0 D10 R6) romped their way to 35 first-half points and never looked back in downing the Falcons, who have been outscored 123-24 in their first three games while going 0-3.

Pat Pascarella, only a sophomore, led the way for Bradford with 11 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns while also intercepting a pass on defense. Mark Hayers added 31 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, while Mike Pascarella had 51 yards rushing and a score. Quarterback Tyler Grandy also found the end zone for the Owls.

DUBOIS – Shyquawn Pulliam ran for 313 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries to lead Erie Cathedral Prep to a 42-21 win in a non-conference game at DuBois Friday night.

Pulliam, who also caught one pass for 18 yards, picked up 106 of his yards on two crucial fourth-quarter touchdowns that helped the Ramblers break open a 7-point game going to the fourth quarter by outscoring DuBois 21-7 in the quarter.

A 66-yard scoring run by Pulliam opened up a two-touchdown lead for Prep early in the quarter, while a 50-yard scamper two minutes later made it a 21-point game.

Prep led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter before DuBois took a 14-7 lead midway through the second quarter on a 2-yard Danny Henry touchdown run and a 100-yard Josh Means interception return for a touchdown.

But Prep took a 21-14 halftime lead on a 6-yard run by Pulliam and a 1-yard Erick Green run with just 30 seconds left in the half.

DuBois’ final score came on a 1-yard run by Henry in the fourth quarter.

The game featured 839 yards of offense including 539 by Prep, 401 of that on the ground.

Garrett Malmgren, who ran for 300 yards in a Week One win over Clearfield, led DuBois on the ground with 28 carries for 101 yards. Logan Weaver was 2 of 16 passing for 54 yards and three interceptions, while Wehrle ran 12 times for 39 yards and caught one pass for 49 yards.

REDBANK VALLEY 54, UNION 0

NEW BETHLEHEM – Redbank Valley rolled to its 12th straight win over rival Union 54-0 Friday night in New Bethlehem.

It was the second straight shutout for the Bulldogs (3-0 overall, 3-0 KSAC), who have allowed six points in three games. Three games into the year, it marks the first time Redbank Valley has shutout two opponents in the same season since 2001. The Bulldogs last recorded three shutouts in a year in 1996 when they posted six. The 1996 season was also the last time the Bulldogs posted back-to-back shutouts (they did it twice that season, once going three games without allowing a point).
