UNION 40, A-C VALLEY 0

RIMERSBURG – Union did something it hadn’t done since before its head coach was born in a 40-0 win over visiting A-C Valley Friday night that gave first-year head coach Jeremy Lipps his first victory.

The last time the Golden Knights (1-6 overall, 1-6 KSAC) won a conference game by 40 or more points was 1981 nearly five years before Lipps was born. Back then, Ronald Reagan was in his first months as president, the Soviet Union was in full swing and the Golden Knights toppled rival East Brady 52-6.

It had been nine years and two days since the Knights had even put up 40 points going back to Oct. 8, 1999, when they beat Shannock Valley 54-38. They also beat West Middlesex 54-12 in a non-conference game that season.

Colby Davis ran for two touchdowns, while Matt Gagliano threw for a score and ran for a score for the Knights. Davis finished with 17 carries for 158 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 35 yards. Zach Traister, who had an 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown, also ran four times for 141 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards.

For A-C Valley, it was loss No. 29 in a row. The Falcons played without starting quarterback Michael Orrvick, but did get 168 yards rushing on just 11 carries from Luke Walker. Walker also caught one pass for 24 yards and was 0 of 5 passing with an interception.

ERIE STRONG VINCENT 62, BRADFORD 0

ERIE – Erie Strong Vincent showed why it’s ranked No. 1 in Class AAA by the PA Football News handing Bradford’s its worst loss in 56 years with a 62-0 pummeling of the visiting Owls Friday night.

The loss was Bradford’s worst since Olean (NY) beat the Owls 66-4 in 1952. The last time Bradford lost by more than 62 points was in 1922 when Jamestown beat the Owls 86-0. Bradford’s worst loss of all-time came in 1908 when DuBois smashed the Owls 88-0.

SMETHPORT 40, SHEFFIELD 16

SMETHPORT – Behind two touchdowns from Ryan Wells, Smethport gave first-year head coach Ryan Yingling his first victory 40-16 over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

Wells, who ran seven times for 57 yards, scored on an 80-yard punt return and on a 49-yard touchdown run for the Hubbers (1-6).

Jesse Parsons scored twice for Sheffield (0-7) finding pay dirt on runs of 5 and 20 yards. He finished with 50 yards rushing on 19 carries while also catching one 8-yard pass. Craig Fitch was 5 of 19 passing for 107 yards and ran for 24 more yards.
