DISTRICT 9 CLASS A PLAYOFFS SELECTION AND SEEDING PROCESS

·         This is not an open tournament; The AML will have four teams guaranteed to participate in the tournament; the KSAC will have two teams guaranteed to participate in the tournament; two teams will be selected as “at large qualifiers”

·         Pre-seeded brackets (1. AML No. 1; 2. KSAC No. 1; 3. AML No. 2; 4. KSAC No. 2; 5. AML No. 3; 6. AML No.4; 7. At Large; 8. At Large)

·         AML Qualifying Criteria will be as follows:

(a). If the AML Champion is a Class A team, that team will be the No. 1           ranked AML team

(b). In scenario (a) above the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 AML ranked teams  will be decided using the following criteria:

                        (1). Winning percentage based on all regular-season AML games

                        (2). Head-to-head competition

                        (3). PIAA ranking system (click here for an explanation of the ranking system)

(c). If the AML Champion is not a Class A team, then the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 AML ranked teams will be decided using the following criteria:

            (1). Winning percentage based on all regular-season AML games

                        (2). Head-to-head competition

·         KSAC Qualifying Criteria will be as follows:

(a). Will be based on all games played using the following (all three point totals will be combined to form a final point total that will be used in deciding the two teams):

            (1). PIAA football ranking system (click here for an explanation of the ranking system)

            (2). Power Points (click here for an explanation of the power points)

            (3). Schedule Points (click here for an explanation of the schedule points)

·         At Large Qualifying Criteria will be as follows:

(a).Winning percentage based on all games played

(b). PIAA ranking system based on all games played (click here for an explanation of the ranking system)

·         Notes:

(a). Only games schedule prior to the first practice date of the 2010 season will be considered to enter, qualify and seed for the 2010 tournament

(b). If a school does not play a game or does not play a number of games or does not complete the season (due to work stoppage, not enough players, etc.) the game or games not played will be considered a forfeit win for their opponent. The results of games played prior to the team not playing will stand

(c). Schools must declare their intention to enter the tournament before or immediately after their games played Nov. 5 or Nov. 6, 2010 – Note – Just because a team has qualified for the tournament does not mean they have to participate in the tournament. That is a decision each school makes on its own.

                          PIAA Football ranking system:

Basic Points – “A” Teams

160 points for win over a class AAAA opponent

140 points for win over a class AAA opponent

120 points for win over a class AA opponent

100 points for win over a class A opponent

 PLUS

Power points:

Team A picks up 10 points for every win its opponent earns – PROVIDING – Team A has defeated team B.

 

Example:

Team A (AAAA) 4-0 defeated Team B (AAAA) 2-2 Team A receives 100 basic points plus 20 power points because Team B has 2 victories.

 

Schedule Points:

All teams will receive schedule points for all games schedule regardless of a win or loss.

40 points for every AAAA team scheduled

30 points for every AAA team scheduled

20 points for every AA team scheduled

10 points for every A team scheduled
