STRATTANVILLE - The St. Marys Flying Dutchmen used five first-quarter touchdowns and a very stingy defense to even their record at 1-1 Friday night with a 55-12 victory over host Clarion-Limestone behind a four-touchdown performance from Justin Quiggle.

Quiggle, a junior tailback, got the scoring started 30 seconds into the game.

Clarion-Limestone fumbled the ball on their second play from scrimmage and the Dutchmen took over at midfield.  Quiggle took the handoff on a sweep and went 50 yards down the right sideline putting St. Marys up 6-0.  Quiggle added the 2-point conversion and the rout was on.

St. Marys scored on four of its six first-half possessions.

Quiggle added two more scores rushing and returned a punt 47 yards for another score.  Kyle Schneider and Brian Merritt each scored a rushing touchdown. Quiggle finished the game rushing only 4 times for 97 yards and 3 scores.  Cody Baker added 19 carries for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Lions were able to get on the scoreboard just before halftime as backup quarterback, freshman Christian Bakewell, tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Port with 1:41 left in the second quarter.

St. Marys will host the Punxsutawney Chucks, 2-0, next Friday night in the Dutchmen’s home opener at Dutch Country Stadium in a key early season matchup not only in the newly formed KSAC Large School Division but in regards to possible seeding for the Class AAA playoffs later on in the season.
