RIMERSBURG – Union exploded for 32 second-quarter points on its way to a 52-35 win over visiting Clarion-Limestone Thursday night.

The 32 points in the second quarter are more points than Union had scored in 94 of its past 97 games dating back to late in the 1999 season.

C-L actually led 7-6 following a 1-yard  Joe Tommasi run 45 seconds into the second quarter, and Union led by just one, 14-13, with 7:29 to play in the first half after a Billy Kelley 1-yard touchdown run.

But the Golden Knights Union scored three touchdowns in the final 7:12 of the half and converted the two-point conversion to take a 38-13 halftime lead.

Aaron Graham made it 22-13 on a 63-yard touchdown run with 7:12 left before Brody Pollock hauled in a 48-yard touchdown pass from Trent Corle to make it 30-13 with 5:27 to play in the half. Smith then scored on a 2-yard run with 21 seconds left to finish off the first-half scoring.

The two teams then traded touchdowns in the third quarter before C-L outscored Union 16-8 in the fourth quarter.

Tommasi had a huge game for C-L rushing for 242 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries. C-L ran for 270 yards after entering the season having rushed for less than 100 yards as a team in four games.

Taylor Smith was the big runner for Union with 120 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 13 carries and also picked off a pass on defense, while Trent Corle was 5-for-6 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Both scoring tosses went to Brody Pollock, who had three catches for 144 yards.

Austin Davis added a 5-yard touchdown run for Union.

Kelley was 15 of 26 passing for 133 yards and also ran for 19 yards for C-L.

NOTES –Union’s 52 points are tied for the 12th most in program history and are the second most since the start of the 2000 season … The 35 points were the fourth most by C-L since the start of the 2005 season.
