KANE – Curwensville’s Alex Holland ran for a District 9-record 417 yards and scored five touchdowns on 33 carries in a 48-20 Golden Tide win at Kane.

All five of Holland’s touchdowns and the majority of his yards came in the first three quarters, as he was pulled early in the fourth quarter with the Tide leading by 28.

Holland missed the Pennsylvania rushing record by 71 yards – its 488 set by Harbor Creek’s Stephen Blose in 2005 against Fort LeBoeuf. He scored on runs of 36, 65, 12, 56 and 60 yards with the first three coming in the first half helping Curwensville (5-0 overall, 5-0 AML South) take a 27-7 halftime lead.

The Golden Tide, who outgained Kane (2-3, 2-3) 574-175, also got a 51-yard touchdown pass from Hunter McCracken to Shane Hoover with two seconds to go in the first half and a 3-yard Zach Dimmick scoring run in the fourth quarter.

Kane scored on a 1-yard Logan Depto run in the second quarter, a 19-yard Simon Gadley run in the third quarter and an 89-yard Marty Niklas fumble return also in the third quarter that actually cut the Curwensville lead to 35-20 at the time.

NOTES – The closet a District 9 runner has come to 400 yards in the last 10 years was in 2002 when Clearfield’s Dave Richards ran for 363 yards and seven touchdowns … The 400-yard game puts Holland over 1,000 yards rushing on the season. He has 1,080 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on 113 carries, an average of 9.6 yards per carry … Curwensville has now scored 40 or more points in four of its five games and is averaging 51.8 points per game … The Tide travel to unbeaten Brockway next week.
