ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Flying Dutchmen scored five touchdowns of 48 yards or longer in their 55-12 win over the visiting Union Golden Knights Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium.

The Dutchmen (5-3) scored on each of their first four possessions to overwhelm the Knights.

Brian Merritt opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run to cap a five play 88 yard to put St. Marys ahead 7-0.

Following a second Union punt, Kevin Hoy hit the first big play of the night when he broke loose off of left tackle and scampered 66 yards for the score putting the Dutch up 14-0.

St. Marys scored three more times before the half, once on an 85-yard run by Kyle Schneider nd two touchdown passes from Brad Yetzer.  One went to Jimmy Werner good for 12 yards and the other to Merritt for 48 yards on the last play of the first half to make it 35-0 heading to halftime.

Union (2-6) finally got on the scoreboard thanks to an Aaron Graham 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown cutting the St. Marys lead to 42-6.

Schneider led the Dutchmen offense with 138 yards on five carries and the touchdown. Hoy finished with eight carries good for 109 yards and a score.  Merritt had 89 yards of total offense and scored twice.

Kaden McGregor ran for 59 yards and a score to lead the Golden Knights.

Union returns to action next Friday night when they host A-C Valley.

St. Marys will host the Karns City Gremlins next week at Dutch Country Stadium on senior night.
