DUBOIS – Derek Morgan and Brandon Hogue each scored two touchdowns, and Clearfield’s defense forced four Johnstown turnovers as the Bisons remained unbeaten with a 28-12 win over the Trojans in a PIAA Class AAA Play-in game Friday night at DuBois’ Mansell Stadium.

Clearfield (12-0) scored all the points it needed in the first quarter, as Morgan scored on a 1-yard run and Hogue on an 11-yard pass from Curtis Frye helping the Bisons take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first 12 minutes.

A 4-yard touchdown run by Morgan 47 seconds into the second quarter extended that lead to 21-6 at halftime, and Hogue made it 28-6 when he caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Frye in the opening minutes of the second half.

Clearfield’s defense did the rest holding a high-flying Johnstown club to its lowest point total of the season while handing the Trojans (10-2) their second defeat. Johnstown came into the game averaging 36.2 points per game.

The Trojans did outgain Clearfield 327-230 but the Bisons picked off three Gervon Simon passes with Frye, Jack Mellgard and Christian Lezzer each getting one, and Clearfield also recovered a Johnstown fumble.

Johnstown  actually struck first on a 28-yard pass from Simon to Calvin Anderson just under three minutes into the game but didn’t score again until Simon scored on a 4-yard run late in the third quarter.

Morgan ran for 90 yards on 23 carries, while Frye added 47 yards on 12 carries and was an efficient 7 of 11 passing for 96 yards and two touchdowns.

Simon ran for 132 yards and was 11 of 26 passing for 125 yards for Johnstown. He also caught one pass for nine yards.

Clearfield will face Shikellamy in the PIAA playoffs next week. Shikellamy beat Selinsgrove for the District 4 title Friday night.
