SHAMOKIN – Allentown Central Catholic showed Clearfield very quickly why it’s ranked No. 1 in the state by various publications scoring 41 points before the Bisons found the scoreboard on its way to a 55-20 win in the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals Friday night at Shamokin’s Kemp Stadium.

ACC (14-0) led 27-0 at the end of the first quarter and 41-0 until Clearfield scored with 11 seconds left in the first half.

Colin McDermott and Brendan Nosovitch were the stars for the Vikings.

McDermott ran for 279 yards and three touchdowns on runs of 32, 19 and 54 yards, while Nosovitch ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries and went 6 of 11 passing for 148 yards and two more scores.

Clearfield (13-1) got 71 yards rushing and a touchdown from Derek Morgan and two Curtis Frye to Beau Swales touchdown passes. Frye was 9 of 21 passing for 117 yards with Swales catching two passes for 13 yards. Derek Danver had four catches for 83 yards.

McDermott’s first two scoring runs came within a span of just over 2:30 minutes early in the game giving ACC a 14-0 lead.

Nosovitch then took over throwing a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jack Sandherr then running for a 72-yard score to finish off the first-quarter scoring.

ACC then got two touchdowns in the final 2:55 of the first half to make it 41-0, as G.B. Harkins scored on a 57-yard run and Nosovitch hit Kevin Gulyas with a 21-yard scoring pass with 35 seconds to go before halftime.

Clearfield scored with 11 seconds left in the half when Frye hit Swales with a 10-yard scoring pass to avoid the Mercy Rule heading into the second half.

But ACC wasted little time Mercy Ruling the Bisons at the start of the second half when Nosovitch scored on an 8-yard run less than three minutes into the half.

McDermott then added a 54-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter before Morgan scored on a 3-yard run and Swales on a 3-yard pass from Frye in the final 6:44 with the final touchdown coming with 38 seconds to play.

NOTES – The 13 wins are a school record for Clearfield … ACC outgained Clearfield 507 yards to 137 despite running just five more plays than the Bisons.
