Brockway's Derek Buganza was honored prior to Friday night's game with Johnsonburg for breaking the Pennsylvania career passing mark. Buganza didn't play quarterback in the game because of a thumb injury but has 8,549 career passing yards through Oct. 22

MONITEAU 27, KEYSTONE 6

KNOX – Moniteau 19 points in the final 14:05 to break open a two-point game and get a 27-6 win on the road at Keystone Friday night.

The Warriors (4-4) led 8-6 after Keystone’s Mitch Rearick hit B.J. Seyler with a 55-yard touchdown pass with 4:33 left in the third quarter.

But Kyle Armagost scored the first of back-to-back touchdowns 2:28 later to put Moniteau ahead 14-6. Armagost then scored on a 2-yard run with 9:13 left in the game before Zach Sloan scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard run with 3:30 to play.

The Warriors led 2-0 after the first quarter when Rearick was tackled in the end zone and 8-0 at halftime thanks to a 44-yard pass from Armagost to Sloan.

Armagost ran 28 times for 158 yards and was 9 of 17 passing for 171 yards, a touchdown and a pick. Ethan Pry caught three passes for 105 yards.

Rearick was 7 of 18 passing for 145 yards a touchdown and a pick for Keystone (2-6), while Seyler had two catches for 110 yards.

KANE 33, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY — Quarterback Sean Jordan, replacing Kane’s injured starting quarterback Alex Anderson, completed 6 of 7 passes for 150 yards and threw three touchdowns in the Wolves’ 33-0 win at Ridgway Friday night.

Jordan hit Bruce Waters on two of his scoring passes of 32 and 81 yards. Jordan also connected with Mike Kocjancic for a 22-yard TD pass.

Kane (4-4) also got touchdowns from Pat Anderson on a 59-yard punt return and Dylan Eckstrom on a 5-yard run.

Ridgway fell to 0-8.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 47, REDBANK VALLEY 0

NEW BETHLEHEM — Six different players scored touchdowns as the Punxsutawney Chucks stayed unbeaten at 8-0 with a convincing 47-0 win at Redbank Valley Friday night.

Chucks quarterback Logan Weaver completed 14 of 20 passes for 198 yards with two touchdowns. He also threw a 27-yard TD pass to Zak Dickey in the first quarter and a 13-yard pass to Ben Blazavich in the second quarter. Weaver scored on an 8-yard run as well in the first quarter.

Blazavich was the only player to score twice as he returned a blocked punt eight yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Jason Fallara ran for a 7-yard touchdown, Glenn Perry added a 3-yard run in the second quarter and Alex Fedigan returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown for the final points in the third quarter.

While the Chucks hiked their regular season winning streak to 16, Redbank Valley dropped to 4-4.

CLEARFIELD 42, JUNIATA 14

MIFFLINTOWN — Quarterback Curtis Frye threw for three touchdowns while teammates Beau Swales and Jack Mellgard each reached the end zone twice in the Clearfield Bisons’ 42-14 blowout of Juniata Friday night.

The Bisons improved to 8-0 by scoring the first 42 points of the game, putting the game into PIAA Mercy Rule running clock territory by the 7:35 mark of the third quarter.

Frye completed 11 of 16 passes for 207 yards. He tossed a 64-yard scoring pass to Swales, a 5-yarder to Brandon Hogue and a 12-yarder to Mellegard. Swales and Mellgard also ran for touchdowns of 1 and 42 yards respectively. Swales finished with 116 yards receiving on just three catches.

Juniata was limited to 168 yards by the Bisons defense. The Indians fell to 2-6 with its sixth straight loss.

BROCKWAY 63, JOHNSONBURG 38

BROCKWAY — In District 9’s highest scoring game of the season, Brockway’s Mike Vervoort rushed for 226 yards on just 16 carries and Zack Freemer ran for 133 yards and four touchdowns as the Rovers went to the ground game without record-breaking quarterback Derek Buganza.

The win clinched the Rovers the Allegheny Mountain League’s South Division title and a matchup with newly crowned AML-North champion Cameron County in the AML Championship Game in Week 10.

Without Buganza, the Rovers (8-0) ran for 477 yards. Kyle Braun chipped in with 96 yards on only six carries, scoring on a 77-yard run late in the fourth quarter and starting the game with a 57-yard TD reception from Kyle Titler.

Titler and Braun both threw passes for the Rovers as Titler completed 2 of 4 passes for 85 yards and Braun completed 5 of 11 passes for 105 yards. He also threw a 74-yard TD pass to Chris Marshall.

Even though it was outgained by the Rovers, 667-201, Johnsonburg (4-4) managed to put up some points thanks to a big game from Rams quarterback Andrew Nortum, who had a hand in four of the Rams’ five touchdowns. He ran for 136 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 77 and 63 yards, and threw a 32-yard TD pass to Mitchell Holmberg. Nortum also returned a Rovers kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown with 39 seconds left in the game.

The Rams’ other score came on Nathan Zuroski’s 45-yard interception return near the end of the first half.

Brockway led 14-8 after one quarter before both teams combined for 42 points in the second quarter. The Rovers led at halftime, 42-22.

CURWENSVILLE 28, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

CURWENSVILLE — Alex Holland ran for 222 yards on 32 carries and scored two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 6 yards in the first half to lead the Curwensville Golden Tide to a 28-6 win over Elk County Catholic Friday night.

The Golden Tide (7-1) limited the Crusaders (6-2) to 134 yards of offense and held 1,000-yard running back Ricky Pearsall to 88 yards on 23 carries. Pearsall scored the Crusaders’ only touchdown on a 2-yard run in the third quarter.

Curwensville (7-1) sandwiched Pearsall’s touchdown with a 2-yard TD run by quarterback Alec Starr and a 1-yard scoring run by fullback Zach Dimmick.

CORRY 31, DuBOIS 13

DuBOIS — Corry’s Adam Zimmerman rushed for 105 yards on 21 carries and scored on runs of 22 and 35 yards in the visiting Beavers’ 31-13 win over the homestanding DuBois Beavers in a District 10 Region 5 game Friday night.

Corry (6-2 overall, 4-2 Region 5) led 10-7 at halftime before scoring the first two touchdowns of the second half on quarterback Cory Owens’ 23-yard pass to John Cragg and Zimmerman’s 35-yarder to take a 31-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

DuBois (4-4, 2-3) got both of its touchdowns on runs of 1 and 3 yards from quarterback Sean Sleigh. Shawn Newpher ran for 88 yards on 20 carries.

KARNS CITY 59, CLARION-LIMESTONE 20

KARNS CITY — Tyler Slagle ran for five touchdowns as the Karns City Gremlins routed Clarion-Limestone, 59-20, Friday night.

Slagle ran for 100 yards on 14 carries, helping lead a Gremlins offense that piled up 644 yards of offense. His touchdown runs came on runs of 12, 6, 15, 3 and 23 yards, the last one giving the Gremlins (3-5) a 52-14 lead after three quarters.

Karns City quarterback Dylan Hipple completed 11 of 13 passes for 172 yards, throwing a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Bowser. Glenn Toy rushed for 79 yards on eight carries and scored on a 7-yard run.

Clarion-Limestone quarterback Billy Kelley completed 15 of 30 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns, one to Zach Kemmer who caught 6 passes for 113 yards. The Lions dropped to 1-7.

CAMERON COUNTY 27, PORT ALLEGANY 21, OT

EMPORIUM – Jason Blose’s touchdown run in overtime lifted Cameron County to its fourth straight AML North title with a 27-21 win over visiting Port Allegany Friday night.

Blose had a big night for the Red Raiders (6-2 overall, 6-2 AML North), who have won six in a row, rushing 30 times for 185 yards and three touchdowns.  Andrew Fragale added a touchdown run for Cameron County.

Matt Bodamer accounted for all three Port Allegany (4-4, 4-4) scores throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for a third. He hit Seth Lowery with a 49-yard score and Tyce Miller with a 17-yard strike and finished the night 7 of 14 passing for 166 yards.

COUDERSPORT 41, OTTO-ELDRED 16

COUDERSPORT — Mitch Freeman rushed for 129 yards and five touchdowns to lead Coudersport to a 41-16 victory over Otto-Eldred Friday.

Otto-Eldred (1-7) held a 10-6 lead in the second quarter before Freeman took over, scoring on a 14-yard touchdown run and a 19-yard receiving touchdown from Tim McCusker, who returned after a three-week hiatus due to injury.

Jason Gibson added a 37-yard rushing touchdown just before half and the Falcons (4-4) were well on their way to a win.

Freeman scored two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, one of which was a 69-yard burst to cap the scoring for Coudy. 

Clay Pinney added a 13-yard touchdown run for Otto late in the third.

Jake Knapp accounted for all of Otto's points in the first quarter, catching a 73-yard touchdown pass from Nate Bair while also booting a 35-yard field-goal after Freeman scored his first touchdown of the night on a 14-yard burst.

BRADFORD 44, ERIE EAST 14

BRADFORD — Pat Pascarella had another big night, rushing for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while recording 10 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense to key Bradford's 44-14 rout of Erie East that kept the Owls’ playoff hopes alive.

Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, Bradford caught a break when East's punter stepped out of the end zone for a safety, which proved to be the turning point of the game.

Bradford got the ball back and drove right down the field, with Mark Havers capping the drive on a one-yard plunge.

On the Owls' ensuing drive, Pascarella took a handoff on a double reverse and rushed 45 yards for a score and a 16-6 lead going into halftime.

Cody Coats opened the second half with a highlight reel 77-yard touchdown run that put the game out of reach.

The trio of Pascarella, Coats and Havers added one more touchdown each in the second half, giving them all two touchdowns on the night.

Havers finished with 84 yards on 13 carries for the 6-2 Owls.

SMETHPORT 51, SHEFFIELD 22

SMETHPORT — Smethport kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 51-22 win over Sheffield Friday.

With the game tied at 8-8 in the second quarter, Smethport's Ryan Wells scored on a 6-yard run that, coupled with the two-point conversion, gave the Hubbers (3-5) a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Wells scored again on the ensuing drive from 11 yards out and Colin Strawcutter returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown to open the game up 30-8 at intermission.

Strawcutter added a 2-yard rushing touchdown to open the third quarter. Brian Zetwick and Kevin Lord also added rushing touchdowns in the third quarter.

Sheffield (1-7) found pay dirt late in the fourth on a Ike Nearing to Kalil Slaughter pitch and catch.

Lord got things going in the first quarter for Smethport, scampering 66 yards for a score. Sheffield tied the game at 8-8 on Nearing to George Fitch TD pass.
