CAMERON COUNTY 17, SHEFFIELD 0

SHEFFIELD – Cameron County scored all of its points in the second quarter to get a 17-0 win on the road at Sheffield Saturday afternoon.

Jason Blose scored on a 1-yard run, Zach Austin on a 10-yard run and Val Thompson kicked a 31-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half for the Red Raiders (7-2 overall, 7-2 AML North).

The Cameron County defense, meanwhile, took care of the rest limiting Sheffield (1-8, 1-8) to 98 total yards on the day.

Blose had more than double that himself rushing 26 times for 226 yards and catching pone pass from 14 yards. He accounted for 240 of Cameron’s 339 yards of offense.

PORT ALLEGANY 39, COUDERSPORT 8

PORT ALLEGANY – Behind four touchdown passes from Matt Bodamer, including three to Camrin Stuckey, Port Allegany clinched the final AML automatic District 9 Class A playoff berth with a 39-8 win over visiting Coudersport Saturday afternoon.

Bodamer was 7 of 10 passing for 204 yards and threw touchdowns passes of 20, 59 and 80 yards to Stuckey while also hitting Trent Neal with a 31-yard scoring strike. Zach Ramadhan added a 40-yard touchdown run for the Gators, and Kenny Kysor booted a 22-yard field goal.

Stuckey finished with three catches for 159 yards and Seth Lowery had 102 yards rushing on 13 carries before leaving with an injury that kept him out in the second half.

Coudersport’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jason Gibson to Alex Furman. The Falcons ground game mustered just 65 yards on the day.

Despite the loss, Coudersport has still clinched one of the two wild-card playoff spots in Class A.

CLEARFIELD 34, BELLEFONTE 0

HYDE – The Clearfield Bisons turned in another defensive gem in a 34-0 shutout of visiting Bellefonte Friday night that clinched the Mountain League Allegheny Division title.

The Bisons, who improved to 9-0 overall, 5-0 in league play, limited the Red Raiders (6-3, 3-2) to just 57 yards on 39 plays from scrimmage. Bellefonte lost 22 yards on 17 rushing attempts.

Meanwhile, Derek Morgan and Beau Swales each scored two touchdowns. Morgan scored the Bisons’ first two touchdowns in the first quarter on a 3-yard run and a 31-yard pass from quarterback Curtis Frye. Morgan rushed for 63 yards on 11 carries and caught two balls for 41 yards. Swales had a pair of 2-yard TD runs in the second and third quarters and finished with 79 yards on 17 carries.

Christian Lezzer scored on a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 41, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY – Quarterback Kyle Schneider passed for two touchdowns and ran for another and Ricky Pearsall turned in two long scoring runs to lead the Elk County Catholic Crusaders to a 41-0 shutout of Ridgway Friday night.

Schneider completed 3 of 5 passes for 100 yards, finding David Bojalad and Josh Gebauer on scoring throws of 31 and 40 yards respectively. He started the game’s scoring with a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

Pearsall’s runs came from 60 and 45 yards out. He finished with 169 yards on just 11 carries.

The Crusaders (7-2) limited the Elkers (0-9) to 44 yards of offense.

BRADFORD 42, ERIE STRONG VINCENT 14

BRADFORD – Bradford kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 42-14 rout of Erie Strong Vincent Friday.

Leading just 7-0 at halftime, the Owls (7-2 overall, 5-1 D10 Region 6) broke the game open in the third quarter.

First, just in time for Halloween, Bradford went to its bag of tricks when running back Pat Pascarella hit quarterback Cody Coats on a halfback option pass that went 46 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Pascarella went the more conventional route the next time scoring on a 9-yard run making it 21-0 before adding another rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Fullback Mark Havers added two more touchdown runs in the final stanza for the Owl after also scoring on a 5-yard run in the first half.

In order to make the District 9 playoffs, aka the District 9 Class AAA Title game, Bradford needs to win next week at DuBois and have Punxsutawney lose against winless West Shamokin. Then some other factors would also have to break right for the Owls to get the second and final seed in the two-team tournament. Clearfield clinched a berth in the postseason with a win over Bellefonte Friday night.

SMETHPORT 40, OTTO-ELDRED 0

DUKE CENTER – Smethport kept its playoff hopes alive with a 40-0 win at Otto-Eldred Friday night.

Ryan Wells rushed for 180 yards and two scores, and the Hubbers (4-5 overall, 4-5 AML North) broke out to a 28-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Kevin Lord accounted for three touchdowns for Smethport, two in the air and one on the ground. He threw a 40-yard strike to Jory Okerlund and a 35-yard scoring pass to Kolin Strawcutter while also rushing for a 65-yard touchdown. He ran for 100 yards and threw for 119.

The win was the third in a row for Smethport, its longest win streak since 2004.

The Hubbers can still make the District 9 Class A playoffs but need a lot of help. First, Smethport needs Coudersport to beat Port Allegany Saturday. Then, Smethport needs Keystone to top Johnsonburg next week. If that happens, Smethport will most likely make the postseason for the first time since 2004.

UNION 28, A-C VALLEY 6

RIMERSBURG – Thanks to pair of touchdown runs and a touchdown pass from Taylor Smith, Union secured its most wins since 2000 with a 28-6 win over visiting A-C Valley.

Smith scored on runs of 33 and 29 yards and also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Trent Corle to help the Golden Knights improve to 3-6 on the season and 3-2 in the KSAC Small School Division locking up a winning conference record for Union for the first time since going 5-4 in the KSAC in 1997. Union can try for its first four-win season since 1997 next Saturday at Sheffield.

Corle also scored two touchdowns for the Golden Knights also finding pay first on a 2-yard run.

DUBOIS – Grove City raced out to a 28-7 halftime lead on its way to a 45-7 win at DuBois Friday night to stay perfect at 9-0.

BROCKWAY 21, KANE 7

That changed in the third quarter when he hit Mike Vervoort with a game-changing 50-yard scoring pass helping the Rovers to a 21-7 win.

Brockway (9-0 overall, 9-0 AML South) found itself in a 7-all tie with the Wolves (4-5, 4-5) after Kane’s Dylan Eckstrom scored on a 4-yard run early in the third quarter.

But the Buganza to Vervoort connection 4:12 late put Brockway ahead to stay, and Zack Freemer added his second touchdown run of the game early in the fourth quarter to give the Rovers some breathing room.

Freemer ran nine times for 55 yards and scored on runs of 20 and 3 yards, while Buganza was 7 of 13 passing for 121 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Kyle Braun was 6 of 10 passing for 63 yards and an interception. Vervoort caught six passes for 88 yards and the score and ran 10 times for 25 yards.

Evan Depto had three catches for 72 yards to lead Kane, while Logan Depto had 10 carries for 22 yards and also picked off a pass on defense as did Mitch Kumher.

Brockway will try for its first unbeaten regular season since 2003 when it faces Cameron County in the AML Title game at 7 p.m. Friday at Cameron County. The Rovers are looking for their first AML Championship since beating Coudersport in the title game in 2003.

CURWENSVILLE 42, JOHNSONBURG 22

JOHNSONBURG – Alex Holland ran for 256 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries to lead visiting Curwensville to a 42-22 win over Johnsonburg Friday night.

Holland scored on runs of 10, 86, 1 and 3 yards, and also added one catch for 37 yards.

Also scoring for the Golden Tide (8-1 overall, 8-1 AML South) were Shane Hoover on a 6-yard pass from Alec Starr and Zach Dimmick on a 3-yard run. Dimmick had 68 yards rushing on 11 carries, while Hoover had three catches for 44 yards and Shea Beast three for 55 yards.

Nortum was 9 of 19 passing for 163 yards and the two touchdowns while rushing 15 times for 32 yards. Holmberg had two grabs for 46 yards.

Despite the loss, the Rams can still clinch a playoff spot in Class A with a win over Keystone next week.

REDBANK VALLEY 41, KEYSTONE 6

KNOX – Keaton and Caleb Delp combined to score five touchdowns and Brandon Bain threw three touchdown passes to lead Redbank Valley to a 41-6 win at Keystone Friday night.
