WEST SHAMOKIN FORFEITS TO PUNXSUTAWNEY; CHUCKS BELIEVED TO HAVE CLAIMED FINAL D9 CLASS AAA PLAYOFF SPOT

PUNXSUTAWNEY – West Shamokin has decided to forfeit its football game with Punxsutawney Friday because of a lack of players, according to a source close to the District 9 committee.

Because the decision was only on West Shamokin’s part, the game goes into the books as a 2-0 win for Punxsutawney. That means the Chucks are believed to have secured the second and final spot in the District 9 Class AAA playoffs. Had Punxsutawney lost to West Shamokin and Bradford beaten DuBois, the Owls would have had the second spot. Clearfield has already claimed a spot in the postseason.

With the forfeit win, Punxsutawney finishes the regular season 10-0, its first unbeaten regular season since going 10-0 in 1977.
