PLAYOFF OUTLOOK AFTER FRIDAY NIGHT |
With the regular season in the books, here is what the District 9 postseason looks like in Class A-AA-AAA. With DuBois losing Friday night, the Beavers won't play in the District 6-9-10 tournament. Keep in mind that everything listed below is
unofficial. District 9 will release official playoff brackets either
over the weekend or Monday.
CLASS A With Cameron County losing to Brockway 57-22 in the
AML Title game, Curwensville (8-1) becomes the No. 1 seed. Redbank
Valley (5-5), meanwhile, is the No. 2 seed following Clarion’s 30-27
loss to Karns City with Elk County Catholic (7-2) coming in at No. 3,
Clarion (5-5) at No. 4, Cameron County (7-3) at No. 5, Port Allegany
(5-4) at No. 6 and most likely Kane (4-5) at No. 7 and Smethport (4-5)
at No.8 (although it isn’t confirmed that either Kane or Smethport will
accept the bids. Coudersport has already indicated it is declining a bid
that would have given it the No. 7 seed). Smethport gets in based on
Johnsonburg’s 30-26 loss at Keystone (3-7) that eliminated the Rams
(4-6) from postseason consideration. The top four seeds will hosts the bottom four seeds
next weekend – most likely with all games Friday night.
CLASS AA Brockway (10-0) had already secured the top seed
before winning the AML Title Friday night. Brookville (8-2) has the No.
2 seed and Moniteau (5-5) the No. 3 seed. Karns City (4-6) would have
been the fourth seed but has declined to enter the postseason and it is
believed neither Sheffield (1-8 going into Saturday’s game with
Sheffield) nor A-C Valley (1-8) will enter meaning a three-team
tournament with Brockway getting a bye and Brookville facing Moniteau at
a neutral site – most likely Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium –
either Friday or Saturday – Saturday night if its at Memorial Stadium.
The winner of that game would then face Brockway in the title game the
following weekend at a neutral site. CLASS AAA Clearfield (10-0) is the top seed and Punxsutawney
(10-0) is the No. 2 seed. The two will meet either Friday or Saturday at
a neutral site – most likely either Brockway or DuBois – for the
District 9 title. It’s a rematch of last year’s title game won by
Punxsutawney. |
