NAZARETH – Brockway senior quarterback Derek Buganza
has been named the 20101 Edsel Award winner as the Prep Nation Radio
Pennsylvania Player of the Year. Buganza led Brockway to a 12-1 record, the District 9
Class AA, AML and AML South titles and a berth in the PIAA Class AA
quarterfinals. The all-time leading passer in Pennsylvania history
with 9,752 career yards, Buganza threw for 3,005 yards (184 of 278) and 30
touchdowns this season compared to just 12 interceptions. During the
season, he had five 300-yard games and five multiple-touchdown contests
including a District 9-record eight touchdown passes in a win over
Smethport Sept. 19. In addition to his state-passing-yard record, Buganza
also set the District 9 record for career touchdown passes with 95 and
holds the single-season Pennsylvania passing-yards record with 3,824 in
2009. He had 26 straight 100-yard passing games between Aug. 29, 2008 and
Sept. 24, 2010 and 10 straight 200-yard games between Oct. 16, 200 and
Sept. 24, 2010, and threw for more than 200 yards 26 times in his career
and more than 300 yards 15 times. He also had 20 career multiple-touchdown
contests, including 18 with three or more touchdowns, 12 with four or more
and nine with five or more, while throwing touchdown passes in 31 of his
34 career games and accumulating a record of 24-10 as a starting
quarterback including 11-1 this season. This is the second year for Prep Nation Radio’s Edsel
Award. The award is combination of fan voting and prepnationradio.com
staff opinions. Last year, Selinsgrove’s Ryan Keiser won the award. |
