Five District 9 football players were named All-State in Class A and Class AAA by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Tuesday including four first-team Class A choices and a second-team Class AAA selection.

The Class AA and Class AAAA teams will be announced Wednesday.

District 9 swept the first-team Class A special teams awards with Port Allegany’s Kenny Kysor, The Rehab Centre D9Sports.com Special Teams Player of the Year, named first-team kicker and Johnsonburg’s Andrew Nortum first-team punter. Joining Kysor and Nortum on the first-team in Class A were a pair of Curwensville offensive players with Alex Holland getting the nod as a first-team running back and Todd Munchak as first-team offensive lineman.

Clearfield’s Curtis Frye was the lone District 9 representative on the Class AAA  making it as a second-team defensive back.

Kysor, a 5-foot-9 inch senior, was a big reason for Port Allegany’s run to the District 9 Class A title game this season. He hit 6 of 9 field goals with a long of 40 yards and was also 37 of 45 on extra points while scoring 55 points. His kickoffs were a weapon in the special-team game for the Gators with 19 of his 64 kickoffs going for touchbacks and all his kicks averaging the 7-yard line.

Nortum, a 6-foot-1 senior who was also the Johnsonburg quarterback, was an outstanding punter for the Rams averaging a District 9-, Class A-best 37.8 yards per punt on 36 boots with 10 downed inside the 20-yard line.

Holland, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior, set the single-season District 9 rushing record this year with 2,600 yards on 346 carries (7.5 per carry) while scoring 29 touchdowns. He also caught nine passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. He helped lead Curwensville to the District 9 Class A title.

Munchak, a 5-10, 275-pound junior center, helped anchor the Curwensville line that cleared the way for Holland while helping the Golden Tide average 367.5 yards per offense, including 277.5 rushing yards, and 39.8 points per game.

Frye, who also doubled as the Bisons quarterback, is a 6-foot junior who had 23 tackles, five interceptions and six passes defended for a Clearfield defense that allowed 14.9 points per game. He helped lead the Bisons to a school-record 13 wins (13-1), the District 9 Class AAA title and the PIAA quarterfinals.
