SOFTBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, SMETHPORT 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – Behind the hitting and pitching of senior Riley Assalone, the DuBois Central Catholic softball team dispatched visiting Smethport, 10-3.

Assalone was 2-for-4 at the plate with a three-run double during a seven-run second inning and also gave up one earned run, three in all, while striking out 13.

Jordy Frank also hit a two-run home run following the Assalone double in the second, while Ashley Wruble was 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI, while Macey Hanes was 2-for-4.

Abbey Woodard went 3-for-3 with a home run for Smethport, while Megan DeLuca was 2-for-4.

NORTHERN POTTER SWEPT BY WILLIAMSON

TIOGA, Pa. – Mikayla Lewis had four hits and three RBIs, but Northern Potter dropped a doubleheader at Williamson.

The Lady Panthers fell to 17-7 in Game One and 9-4 in Game Two.

Lewis was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Game One and was 2-for-4 in Game Two. Tory McCutcheon also went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in Game One for Northern Potter.

But Makayla Butz went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game for Williamson, while Micaiah Welch was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in Game Two.

TYRONE 4, CLEARFIELD 2

TYRONE, Pa. – A four-run fifth inning lifted Tyrone to a 4-2 win over visiting Clearfield.

Cate Baran and Sydney Shaw had RBIs for Tyrone.

Kyra Mollura was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Clearfield, while Brooke Cline was 4-for-4 and Makayla Ross 2-for-3 with an RBI.

BASEBALL

ST. MARYS 9, WARREN 4

WARREN, Pa. – Nate Beimel was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Jared Groll was also 2-for-2 with a run scored with Jeff Wehler going 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored an RBI, Hayden Tettis 1-for-3 with two runs scored, Jesse McKee 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Brandon Sicheri for 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Michael Beimel got the complete-game win allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out five.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 5, OSWAYO VALLEY 4, 8 INNINGS

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Oswayo Valley’s 20-plus game regular-season win streak came to an end in a tough fashion when Cowanesque Valley scored four in the sixth and then one in the eight to take home a 5-4 win.

The Green Wave built up a 4-0 lead after 5 ½ innings thanks in part to a strong performance at the plate from Garret Babcock, who was 3-for-4 with a double.

But Cowanesque Valley tied the game with four in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run double by Wynn Doan and then pushed across a run in the eighth off Garren Black to get the win.

Neither team was sharp defensively with 11 errors in the game including six from Oswayo Valley. A pair of sixth-inning errors by the Green Wave opened the door for Cow Valley’s rally.

WILLIAMSON SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM NORTHERN POTTER

TIOGA, Pa. – Despite a pair of RBI doubles from Jake Boden, visiting Northern Potter was swept in a doubleheader at Williamson.

The Panthers lost Game One 18-3 and Game Two 15-1.

Boden had a run-scoring double in each game.

Jay Steamer drove in four runs in Game Two for Williamson.

CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 8, CLEARFIELD 2

MARTINSBURG, Pa. – Larry Corle and Jacob Muthler were both 2-for-3 to lift Central-Martinsburg to an 8-2 win over visiting Clearfield.

Corle was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Muthler was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

That was more than enough for Brady Nicewonger, who went six innings allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two.

Will Myers had an RBI for Clearfield but took the loss going two innings allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out two.
