Dec. 10, 2019 Boys’ Basketball Roundup: ECC Gets Key Early-Season Win Over Jburg; Byers Late Layup Gives Punxsy Victory

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 64, JOHNSONBURG 53

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Regis Wortman netted 20 points to lead Elk County Catholic past Johnsonburg, 64-53, on the road in AML action.

Mark Krause hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for the Crusaders. Will Uberti added nine tallies.

Despite the loss, Austin Green scored a game-high 31 points for the Rams. Gabe Watts chipped in for 13 tallies.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 46, INDIANA 44

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Daren Byers driving layup with 3.2 seconds left lifted Punxsutawney to a 46-44 win over visiting Indiana.

Byers finished with 14 points for the Chucks, who were led by Nick Humble’s 17 points. Humble hit five 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter.

Andrew Wehrle also chipped in eight points in the win.

Chase Walker paced Indiana with 14 points.

CLEARFIELD 56, BALD EAGLE AREA 38

WINGATE, Pa. – Cade Walker exploded for 22 points to lead Clearfield to a 56-38 victory over Bald Eagle Area on the road in Mountain League play.

Andrew Lopez added 13 points for the Bison and went 3-for-4 at the line. Luke Winters netted seven points and Karson Rumsky chipped in for six.

Jaden Jones paced the Eagles with 14 points followed by Nick Maynard, who tallied 13.

OTTO-ELDRED 65, OSWAYO VALLEY 31

DUKES CENTER, Pa. – Jake Merry led a balanced offensive attack as Otto-Eldred earned a 65-31 victory over visiting Oswayo Valley.

Merry had a team-high 12 points for the Terrors. Gavin Jimerson and Matt Murphy each had 10 points with Braden Maholic adding eight.

The Green Wave were paced by Gunner Bean, who tallied eight points. Caiden Black went 3-for-5 at the line and finished with seven points.

OIL CITY 59, BRADFORD 46

BRADFORD, Pa. – Holden Stahl, Noah Petro and Judias Jackson all reached double digits to lead Oil City to a 59-46 road win over Bradford.

Stahl led the Oilers with 16 points with Petro and Jackson each adding 12 points.

Cam Austin paced Bradford with 17 points and eight rebounds, Tyler Gigliotti added 13 points and five boards and Caleb Nuzzo had 10 points.

Oil City shot 47 percent (20 of 43) from the field compared to just 33 percent (17 of 51) for Bradford, and the Oilers were 16 of 23 from the free-throw line compared to the Owls going 6 of 8.

DUBOIS 66, BROCKWAY 35

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Behind 32 combined points from Chase Husted and Lennen Lindholm, visiting DuBois toppled Brockway, 66-35.

Husted recorded a game-high 17 points for the Beavers with Lindholm netting 15. Nick Felix added 10 points and Jordin Sommers chipped in eight tallies.

Marcus Bennett paced the Rovers with nine points and Alec Freemer scored eight.

BOLIVAR-RICHLAND (N.Y.) 60, PORT ALLEGANY 58

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Despite 20 points, including five three-pointers, from Howie Stuckey, Port Allegany fell to visiting Bolivar-Richland (N.Y.), 60-58.

The Gators forced a turnover with 1.6 seconds left and had a chance to inbound, however, Stuckey was forced to take a tough shot as time expired.

Camdyn MacDonell and Landon Davaher combined to score 47 of Bolivar-Richland’s 60 points. MacDonell led the way with 25 points while Davaher added 22.

Jordan Caro added 18 tallies for the Gators while Dominic Guerrero chipped in nine.
