Dec. 16, 2019 Girls’ Hoops Recaps: Port Allegany’s Barnett Scores 1,000th Point; ECC Rallies Past Kane

PORT ALLEGANY 56, AUSTIN 24

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Cailey Barnett reached the 1,000-point mark in her career when she scored 12 points in Port Allegany’s 56-24 win over visiting Austin in NTL action.

Barnett came into the game needing seven points for the milestone and reached that in the second quarter. She finished the night with 1,005 career tallies.

Playing an all-around game, Barnett also added nine steals and six rebounds.

Bree Garzel led the Lady Gators with 13 points while adding three steals, Jade Evens had eight points and five rebounds, Shannon Curfman seven points and seven boards and Gracie Archer four points and four steals.

Taylor Brewer paced Austin with eight points, four blocks and four rebounds, while Kylie Welsh and Shae Setzer each scored six points. Welsh also had seven rebounds, three steals and a block with Setzer adding four rebounds and five steals.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 36, KANE 35

KANE, Pa. – Julia Aikens and Tami Geci each scored five fourth-quarter points, as visiting Elk County Catholic rallied past Kane, 36-35.

The Lady Crusaders trailed by seven, 29-22. going to the fourth quarter but rallied behind Geci, Aikens and Taylor Newton, who scored four of her game-high 17 points in the final eight minutes.

Newton, Aikens and Geci combined for 34 of ECC’s 36 points with Geci adding nine points and Aikens eight. Newton also had nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Kane had a chance to win the game at the end with the Lady Wolves inbounding at halfcourt with 2.7 seconds left. But the inbounds pass was a bit high and went out of bounds to ECC. The Lady Crusaders then were able to bleed out the remaining 1.3 seconds before Kane could foul.

Emily Bucheit led Kane with 16 points. Sarri Swanson added eight.

COUDERSPORT 49, OSWAYO VALLEY 12

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Sarah Chambers and Lauren Stimaker combined to score 25 points to lead visiting Coudersport to a 49-12 win over Oswayo Valley in NTL play.

Chambers led all scorers with 13 points with Stimaker adding 12.

Elizabeth Frame chipped in 10 tallies for the Lady Falcons.

Macey West led Oswayo Valley with eight points.

SMETHPORT 36, GALETON 22

GALETON, Pa. – Erin Herzog and Mikayla Deyarmin combined to score 32 of Smethport’s 36 points in a 36-22 road NTL win over Galeton.

Herzog led the Lady Hubbers with 17 points and seven rebounds with Deyarmin adding 15 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds.

Sabrina Tanner had a team-best eight boards for Smethport with Abby Lutz and Coryn McClain each adding seven boards.

Jessie Evans led Galeton with 13 points, three assists, two steals and a rebound while Alli Macensky chipped in six points, seven blocked shots and four rebounds.

OTTO-ELDRED 62, NORTHERN POTTER 41

ULYSSES, Pa. – Visiting Otto-Eldred used a balanced attack to pick up a 62-41 NTL win over Northern Potter.

Haley Cousins and Kayley Heller led the Lady Terrors with 12 points apiece with Bri Heller adding eight points, six rebounds and two steals and Jadelyn Spinney scoring eight points to go with three assists and three steals. Also for O-E, Katie Sheeler had seven points, five assists and five steals and Reilly Raught contributed seven points and six rebounds.

Courtney Martin paced Northern Potter with 12 points. Aubree Anderson added eight tallies.

MONITEAU 59, VENANGO CATHOLIC 22

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Kristin Auvil and Aslyn Pry combined for 39 points to lead Moniteau past visiting Venango Catholic, 59-22.

Auvil led the Lady Warriors with a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals with Pry adding 18 tallies, eight assists and four steals.

Emmy Ekis paced Venango Catholic with 10 points and six rebounds. Mariah Wessell added six points.

CURWENSVILLE 47, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 23

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Hannah Condon scored 15 points to pace Curwensville past visiting Philipsburg-Osceola, 47-23.

Tarah Jacobson added 10 points for the Lady Tide with Alyssa Bakaysa scoring nine.

Lindsey Bordas and Kyleigh Kennedy each scored 11 points for Philipsburg-Osceola.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 64, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 35

DUBOIS, Pa. – Using a balanced offensive attack that saw four players reach double digits, visiting Punxsutawney overcame a relatively slow start to beat DuBois Central Catholic, 64-35.

The Lady Chucks led by just three, 15-12, after the first quarter but turned it on in the middle two frames outscoring the Lady Cardinals 38-17 including 20-8 in the second quarter.

Abby Gigliotti led the way for Punxsutawney recording a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while adding three assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Riley Presloid contributed 14 points, four steals and three rebounds, Sarah Weaver had 12 points, three steals, two rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot and Chloe Presloid scored 10 points and added four assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Shay Gulvas paced DCC with 13 points with Jordan Kosko adding 11.

RIDGWAY 39, CAMERON COUNTY 14

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Ridgway got defensive in a 39-14 win at Cameron County.

The Lady Elkers allowed just four baskets in the game and used a balanced offensive effort to secure the win.

Christina Fullem and Julie Peterson each scored nine points for Ridgway with Gabby Rohr adding eight points.

Hailey Hilfiger paced Cameron County with nine points, 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots.

BROCKWAY 38, A-C VALLEY 15

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Danielle Wood scored 12 points and handed out three assists to lift Brockway to a 38-15 win over shorthanded A-C Valley.

Selena Buttery added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Lady Rovers with Morgan Lindemuth scoring five points, coming away with five steals and dishing out four assists and Marcie Smith hauling down six rebounds to go with two points.

A-C Valley, who was without Mia Sherman (illness), was paced by six points from Baylee Blauser.

KARNS CITY 41, CLARION-LIMESTONE 36

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Emma Johns knocked down six shots, including three 3-pointers, on her way to a game-high 17 points to lead Karns City past visiting Clarion-Limestone, 41-36.

Emily Huff added eight points for the Lady Gremlins with Rossi McMillen collecting a team-best 10 rebounds to go with three points.

Maddy Wenner paced C-L with 12 points with Janelle Pezzuti adding eight.

BRADFORD 61, JOHNSONBURG 32

BRADFORD, Pa. – Erica Marshall and Hannah Lary both went over the 20-point mark in Bradford’s 61-32 win over visiting Johnsonburg.

Marshall led all scorers with 24 points with Lary adding 21.

Kaci Stelene led Johnsonburg with 12 points while Tesa Kojancic added nine.
