Dec. 27, 2019 Girls’ Basketball: Schindler Leads Brookville Over DuBois; Buttery Paces Brockway; Rohr Hits Game-Winner for Ridgway

BROOKVILLE 59, DUBOIS 44

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Using a 16-2 run in the second quarter, Brookville beat DuBois, 59-55, in the first round of the Brookville Holiday Tournament.

Relisten to the game:

The Lady Raiders trailed 16-13 early in the second quarter before going on the run that gave them a 29-18 lead with 1:30 to play in the first half.

DuBois got back within eight, 32-24, at halftime, but an 11-2 run to start the third quarter by the Lady Raiders put the game away.

Marcy Schindler had a strong game for Brookville with 23 points and 13 rebounds and was named the Hager Paving Player of the Game.

Schindler talked about the victory:

Morgan Johnson added nine points in the win with Alayna Haight scoring eight points, all in the second quarter, and Madison Johnson chipping in with nine tallies.

Sarah Hanniger led DuBois with 17 points while Abby Guiher added 13 points, including eight in the first quarter.

BROCKWAY 41, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 35

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Selena Buttery scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, helping Brockway to hold off DuBois Central Catholic in the first round of the Brookville Holiday Tournament, 41-35.

The Lady Rovers lost 55-37 at home to DCC back on Dec. 11, but in this one, they took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter and won despite not scoring for the final 6:25 of the game as for large parts of that drought, they chose to run clock against the DCC defense.

Also for Brockway, Danielle Wood finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Shay Gulvas led DCC with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Kosko added 10 points and nine rebounds.

CANTON 39, GALETON 29

CANTON, Pa. – Elle Binford exploded for a game-high 25 to lead Canton to a 39-29 victory over Galeton in the opening round of the Canton Tournament.

Aislyn Williams added seven points for the Lady Tigers.

Jesse Evans netted 11 points in the loss for Galeton. Cara Parsell had six points, six rebounds and three steals.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 58, MONITEAU 32

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Riley Presloid and Chloe Presloid combined to score 30 points to lead Punxsutawney to a 58-32 win over Moniteau in the opening round of the Carl Truance Holiday Tournament.

Riley Presloid led the Lady Chucks with 16 points with Chloe Presloid adding 14 points and six rebounds.

Ryley Casaday chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for Punxsy with Abby Gigliotti adding eight points and seven rebounds.

Aslyn Pry paced Moniteau with 14 points and 15 rebounds with Kristin Auvil chipping in 12 points.

KEYSTONE 43, FRANKLIN 28

SENECA, Pa. – Emily Lauer scored 21 points to lead Keystone to a 43-28 win over Franklin in the consolation game of the Don Hall Memorial Tournament at Cranberry.

Natalie Bowser chipped in eight points for the Lady Panthers.

Camdon Bashor paced Franklin with 15 points with Zelika Hartle adding 11.

HARBOR CREEK 49, CRANBERRY 26

SENECA, Pa. – Jenna Babay and Shaelie Born combined to score 23 points to lead Harbor Creek to a 49-26 win over Cranberry in the championship game of the Don Hall Memorial Tournament at Cranberry.

Babay led the Lady Huskies with 13 points with Born adding 10.

Kaia Dean paced Cranberry with eight points and seven rebounds, Ava Ferringer added seven points and Megan Hadden had four points and 10 rebounds.

RIDGWAY 32, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 30

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Gabbi Rohr hit the game-winning shot as time expired to lead Ridgway to a 32-30 win over Elk County Catholic in the opening round of the Elk County Tournament at St. Marys High School.

Ridgway trailed 21-20 going to the fourth quarter but outscored ECC 12-9 in the final eight minutes to get the win.

Rohr led the way for Ridgway with 12 points with Christina Fullem adding nine points and Julie Peterson six points.

Taylor Newton led all scorers with 23 points for ECC and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.

ST. MARYS 49, JOHNSONBURG 10

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Kaylee Muccio led a balanced St. Marys offensive attack in a 49-10 win over Johnsonburg in the opening round of the Elk County Tournament.

Muccio had a game-high 12 points for the Lady Dutch. Allison Schlimm added 11 tallies with Giorgia Bacica netting 10. Maria Chapelli and Kyla Johnson each had five points.

Kaci Stelen paced the Rammettes with five points.

KANE 54, EISENHOWER 30

KANE, Pa. – Sarri Swanson netted 14 points and grabbed nine boards as Kane defeated Eisenhower, 54-30, in the opening round of the Kane Christmas Tournament.

Swanson was also 8-for-13 at the line for the Lady Wolves. Sierra Hillman netted 12 points and Ainsley Saf tallied five and seven assists. Rainee Wright and Hannah Brown each chipped in five points

Emiley Wheeler paced Eisenhower with a game-high 19 points.

NORTH CLARION 49, CLARION 36

KANE, Pa. – Using a balanced offensive effort, North Clarion cruised to a 49-36 win over Clarion in the opening round of the Kane Christmas Tournament.

Abby Gatesman led the way for the She-Wolves with 11 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks with Gabby Schmader added 10 points, Mackenzie Bauer chipped in nine points, five steals and four assists and Haley Sherman had nine points.

Kait Constantino led all scorers with 20 points for Clarion with Payton Simko adding seven points.

North Clarion led 29-12 at halftime and got the lead to 25 points in the third quarter before Clarion won the fourth quarter, 16-9.

GROVE CITY 56, A-C VALLEY 26

MERCER, Pa. – Becca Santom scored a game-high 20 points to lead Grove City to a 56-26 win over A-C Valley in the opening round of the Mercer Christmas Tournament.

Kenzie Haggart added 11 points for the Lady Eagles, and Clara Hannon chipped in 10 points.

Andrea Meals paced A-C Valley with nine points with Meah Ielase adding six tallies.

NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD 53, NORTHERN POTTER 27

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Jamie McNamera netted a game-high 23 points in North Penn-Mansfield’s 53-27 victory over Northern Potter in the first round of the North Penn-Mansfield Lady Tiger Holiday Tournament.

Jamie Palmer added 12 points for the Lady Tigers with Shaelyn Berguson chipping in eight.

Megan Hyde paced the Lady Panthers with nine points. Aubrey Anderson and Courtney Martin each added four tallies.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 56, SHEFFIELD 13

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Holding Sheffield without a basket in two of the four quarters, Clarion-Limestone rolled to a 56-13 win in the opening round of the Union Christmas Tournament.

The Lady Lions led 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 32-8 at halftime before expanding the lead to 48-9 after three quarters.

Janelle Pezzuti netted a season-high 17 points for C-L with Maddy Wenner adding nine tallies and Frances Milliron and Sydney Simpson eight each.

Marissa Grubbs paced Sheffield with six points.

UNION 49, CAMERON COUNTY 42

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Dominika Logue scored a game-high 20 points to lead Union past Cameron County, 49-42, in the opening round of the Union Christmas Tournament.

Hailey Kriebel added 10 points for the Golden Damsels with Maggie Minnick chipping in with nine tallies.

Kaelee Bresslin paced Cameron County with 19 points with Hailey Hilfiger recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

FREEPORT 68, REDBANK VALLEY 59

RURAL VALLEY, Pa. – Sixteen points from Sydney Shemanski led a balanced scoring offense for Freeport in its 68-59 victory over Redbank Valley in the opening round of the West Shamokin Christmas Tournament.

Harley Holloway added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets with Samantha Clark and Louisa Fennel each chipping in 11. Grace Soilis netted seven points.

Tara Hinderliter had a team-high 19 points in the loss for the Bulldogs. Madison Foringer added 12 tallies Aliva Huffman chipped in nine.

KARNS CITY 38, WILMINGTON 26

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Karns City’s defense allowed three points in the fourth quarter to help the Gremlins earn a 38-26 victory over visiting Wilmington.

Emma Johns led the Lady Gremlins with 11 points while Rossi McMillen added 10. Emma Dailey and Emily Huff each had six tallies.

Merridith Glavach had 10 points in the Lady Greyhounds loss.

CLEARFIELD 49, CURWENSVILLE 16

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Emma Hipps and Oliva Bender combined for 24 points as visiting Clearfield topped Curwensville, 49-16.

Hipps had a game-high 13 points for the Lady Bison while Bender added 11. Tesa Miller netted 10 tallies and Megan Durandetta chipped in nine points on three 3-pointers.

Alyssa Bakaysa paced the Lady Tide with eight tallies.

ROCKY GROVE 41, FOREST AREA 18

TIONESTA, Pa. – Kennedi Winslow scored 18 points to lead visiting Rocky Grove to a 41-18 win over Forest Area at West Forest.

Amy Ruditis chipped in 10 points for the Orioles in the victory, and Rylee Reed added seven points.

Jessica Wagner led Forest Area with seven points.
