Dec. 8, 2017 Knox Country Farm Supply Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Thompson, Keck Hit 1,000 Points

A pair of District 9 girls’ basketball players reached the 1,000-point mark on the opening night of the 2017-18 season with Coudersport’s Haley Keck and A-C Valley’s Ellie Thompson both reaching the milestone.

COUDERSPORT 55, ST. MARYS 32

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Keck entered the night needing 18 points to get to 1,000 and scored her 18th and final point of the night on a fourth-quarter free throw.

Her 18 led the Lady Falcons, who had eight different players score, in the 55-32 win over St. Marys in the opening round of the Coudersport Tip-Off Tournament. Also reaching double digits was EmmaRae Easton with 11 points.

Becca Bauer paced St. Marys with 11.

WEST MIDDLESEX 75, A-C VALLEY 39

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Thompson also entered the night needing 18 for 1,000 and netted 23 in a 75-39 loss to West Middlesex in the West Middlesex Kiwanis Tip-Off Tournament.

The 23 led the Lady Falcons, who didn’t have anyone else score more than six.

West Middlesex got 28 points from Makennah White.

KANE 50, JOHNSONBURG 39

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Rachel Morgan led a trio of Kane players in double digits with 17 points, as the Lady Wolves topped Johnsonburg, 50-39, in the Coudersport Tournament.

Trinity Clark and Ella Marconi each added 10 points for Kane. Morgan completed a double-double with 11 rebounds with Marconi and Clark each adding seven boards.

Cassidy King had 12 and Maria Jones 11 for Johnsonburg.

NORTH CLARION 58, CLEARFIELD 51

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Tori Obenrader scored 25 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead North Clarion to a 58-51 win over Clearfield at the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament.

Abby Gatesman added 14 points and seven rebounds for the She-Wolves.

Alayna Ryan paced Clearfield with 17 points with Brooke Cline chipping in 16.

North Clarion used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to build a 16-point lead, 48-32, before Clearfield closed within five on two occasions late.

BROOKVILLE 68, CLARION-LIMESTONE 22

BROOKVILLE, Pa. — Putting 13 of its 14 players in the scoring column, Brookville rolled to an easy 68-22 win over Clarion-Limestone in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament.

Marcy Schindler and Lauren Hergert reached double figures in scoring with 16 and 11 points respectively. Schindler was 9-of-13 from the field and collected five rebounds. Hergert made all four of her shots from the field.

Brookville led 25-3 after the first quarter and 39-15 by halftime, starting the PIAA’s Mercy Rule with a 61-19 lead at the 6:33 mark of the fourth quarter.

Monica Heath scored five points to lead C-L.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 31, NORTHERN POTTER 27

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Cowanesque Valley outscored Northern Potter, 11-4, in the fourth quarter to rally for a 31-27 win in the Jack Bush Tournament at Cowanesque Valley.

The Lady Indians failed to score in the second quarter and trailed 16-12 at halftime and 23-20 at the end of three quarters before rallying for the win.

Brynn Williams led Cowanesque Valley with 11 points.

Kalie Cowburn paced Northern Potter with 12 points with Mikayla Lewis adding 11.

CLARION 41, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 35

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Wendy Beveridge and Kate Constantino combined for 27 points to lift Clarion to a 41-35 win over DuBois Central Catholic in the Brockway Tip-Off Tournament.

Beveridge led the Lady Cats with 15 points with Constantino adding 12.

Abbey Pettenati led DCC with 12 points with Shay Gulvas adding 10.

BROCKWAY 41, REDBANK VALLEY 31

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Thanks to 17 points and 12 rebounds from Leah Lindemuth and 15 points and nine steals from Kate Morelli, Brockway opened the season with a 41-31 win over Redbank Valley at the Brockway Tip-Off Tournament.

Tara Hinderliter and Maddy Marshall each scored eight points to pace Redbank Valley.

FOREST AREA 28, UNION CITY 26; FOREST AREA 53, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 19

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – In an unusual doubleheader, Forest Area picked up a pair of wins at the Forest Tip-Off Tournament at East Forest.

The Lady Fires defeated Union City, 28-26, in the first game and then topped Tidioute Charter, 53-19, in the nightcap.

In the win over Union City, Bianca Hetrick had nine points and nine rebounds and Emily Everett eight points, while Hetrick exploded for 20 points in the victory over Tidioute Charter with Glory Wagner adding 17 tallies.

BISHOP GUILFOYLE 47, PUNXSUTAWNEY 37

SIDMAN, Pa. – Sophia Warner had 14 points and Tessa Crider 12 to help Bishop Guilfoyle to a 47-37 win over Punxsutawney in the Forest Hills Tip-Off Tournament.

Leah Miller led Punxsutawney with 14 points with Kate Horner adding 11.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 62, BRADFORD 32

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – Despite 12 points from Hannah Lary, Bradford dropped a 62-32 decision to Hollidaysburg in the Hollidaysburg Tip-Off Tournament.

INDIANA 62, KARNS CITY 45

INDIANA, Pa. – Haleigh Zimmerman netted 21 points to lead Indiana to a 62-45 win over Karns City in the opening round of the Indiana Tip-Off Tournament.

Emily Hegedus had a game-high 23 points for the Lady Gremlins with Alyssa Stitt chipping in 10 tallies.

WESTMONT HILLTOP 49, DUBOIS 39

MARION CENTER, Pa. – Despite 17 points and 18 rebounds from Ashley Hallowell, DuBois fell, 49-39, to Westmont Hilltop in the Marion Center Tip-Off Tournament.

Riley Shriver and Courtney Krall led Westmont with 10 points each.

CRANBERRY 53, COMMODORE PERRY 42

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Thanks to 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals from Erin Merryman, Cranberry topped Commodore Perry, 53-42, in the opening game of the Roy Sander Tip-Off Classic at Rocky Grove.

Ashley Finch added 12 points for the Berries with Malliah Schreck chipping in eight points and eight rebounds.

UNION 58, ROCKY GROVE 47

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Frankee Remmick exploded for a career-best 27 points to give first-year head coach Ally Kepple a win in her first game at the helm of Union, 58-47, over Rocky Grove in the Roy Sanner Tip-Off Classic at Rocky Grove.

Bryn Davis added 13 points for the Golden Damsels with Hannah Atzeni chipping in 12.

Mariah Vincent had 26 points to pace Rocky Grove.

YOUNGSVILLE 55, SHEFFIELD 35

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Behind 24 points from Cait Craig, Youngsville rolled to a 55-35 win over Sheffield in the in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Classic.

Marissa Grubbs paced Sheffield with eight points with Lexi Lyon adding seven.

EISENHOWER 36, PORT ALLEGANY 29

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Cailey Barnett had 10 points but Port Allegany fell to Eisenhower, 36-29, in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Classic.

SLIPPERY ROCK 60, KEYSTONE 31

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Emma McDermott and Anna Kadlubak each scored 17 points to lead Slippery Rock to a 60-31 win over Keystone.

Taylor Geer paced Keystone with 13 points.

WARREN 53, MONITEAU 41

WARREN, Pa. – Despite 11 points from Kristin Auvil and nine points and 12 rebounds from Emma Bair, Moniteau dropped a 53-41 decision to Warren in the Warren County Classic.

The Lady Warriors will play Panama (N.Y.) Saturday.

GALETON 64, AUSTIN 35

TIOGA, Pa. – Makaya Shadle had 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead Galeton to a 64-35 win over Austin.

Jordan Brewer paced Austin with 13 points.

WEST BRANCH 62, CURWENSVILLE 31

ALLPORT, Pa. – Madison Weber had 16 points but Curwensville fell to West Branch, 62-31, in Moshannon Valley League action.

OSWAYO VALLEY 60, ARCHBISHOP WALSH 28

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Behind 21 points from Shayla Bickel, Oswayo Valley beat visiting Archbishop Walsh (N.Y.), 60-28.

McKenzie Gross added 12 points and Karina West 10 for the Green Wave.

RIDGWAY 57, CAMERON COUNTY 31

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Emily Fullem exploded for 25 points to lead Ridgway to a 57-31 win at Cameron County.

Alyvia McKimm paced Cameron County with 12 points, Kaelee Bresslin added 10 points an Hailey Hilfiger chipped in two points and 10 rebounds.
