District 9 Releases 2018 Softball Playoff Brackets

BROCKWAY, Pa. – District 9 released the 2018 softball playoff brackets Thursday night.

Brackets: Class 1A • Class 2A • Class 3A (With D5)Class 4A • Class 5A (With D6)

Top seeds are DuBois Central Catholic in Class 1A, Cranberry in Class 2A and Punxsutawney in Class 4A. Karns City is the lone D9 Class 3A school and plays in a sub-region with District 5 with a bye into the sub-region title game. DuBois plays in the District 6-9 Class 5A playoffs and started its postseason with a win Thursday over Hollidaysburg in the semifinals.

In Class 1A, it will be a nine-team bracket with Smethport as the No. 2 seed, Clarion No. 3, Elk County Catholic No. 4, Otto-Eldred No. 5, Coudersport No. 6, A-C Valley No. 7, Cameron County No. 8 and Clarion-Limestone No. 9.

Action will get underway with a play-in game between Cameron County and C-L Monday, May 21, at Cameron County. The quarterfinals will then be played at the home fields of the higher seeds on Wednesday, May 23, for all games but the Otto-Eldred at Elk County Catholic matchup, which will be played Thursday, May 24, with the semifinals being played Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26. The championship game will be at Heindl Field in DuBois Wednesday, May 30. Three teams will qualify for the PIAA playoffs with a consolation game to be played between the semifinal losers at a site, date and time to be determined.

The Class 2A field will include five teams with Redbank Valley the No. 2 seed, Johnsonburg the No. 3 seed, Curwensville the No. 4 seed and Moniteau the No. 5 seed.  One team advances to the PIAA playoffs.

Action will get underway with a quarterfinal matchup with Moniteau traveling to Curwensville Monday, May 21. The semifinals will then take place at the higher seeds home field Wednesday, May 23, with the championship game being played Thursday, May 31, at Heindl Field in DuBois.

In 3A, Karns City awaits the winner of the game between two District 5 schools – Everett and Chesnut Ridge – in the sub-region title game being played May 30 at Heindl Field in DuBois. One team advances to the PIAA playoffs.

In Class 4A, it is a three-team field with St. Marys the No. 2 seed hosting No. 3 seed Clearfield in the semifinals May 23. The title game between that winner and Punxsutawney will be Friday, May 25, at Heindl Field in DuBois. One team advances to the PIAA playoffs.
