Jan. 2, 2020 Boys’/Girls’ Recaps: Smethport Boys Win by One; OV Boys Break Conference Losing Steak

SMETHPORT 48, PORT ALLEGANY 47

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Smethport rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit and a five-point deficit going to the fourth quarter to beat visiting Port Allegany, 48-47, in NTL play.

The Hubbers trailed 24-16 at halftime and were still down 36-31 going to the fourth quarter before Connor Alferi and Richie McDowell combined to score 13 of Smethport’s 17 fourth-quarter points.

Alferi led the way in the fourth with seven points on his way to nine tallies, while McDowell scored six points on his way to a team-best 14 points.

With Port Allegany down 48-45, Jordan Card drove and scored on a layup with about eight seconds to play to make it a one-point game.

The Gators then fouled Noah Lent, who went to the free-throw line and missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Lent got his own rebound and was fouled again. Again, Lent missed the free throw, but Alferi collected the board and was fouled. Alferi then missed a free throw but another offensive rebound sealed the win.

Lent also added nine points for Smethport with Layne Shall chipping in eight points.

Howie Stuckey paced Port Allegany with 16 points with Jordan Card adding 14 points.

OSWAYO VALLEY 51, GALETON 40

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Noah Wichert and Honor Gross each scored 14 points, as Oswayo Valley ended a 23-game North Tier League losing streak with a 51-40 win over Galeton.

The victory was the first in league play for the Green Wave since beating Galeton at home Feb. 1, 2018.

Wichert and Gross had the exact same line of five made baskets, including one 3-pointer, while going 4 of 5 from the line. Gunner Bean added nine points for Oswayo Valley with Cayden Black and Alex Phillips rounding out the scoring with seven tallies each.

Ty Stover paced Galeton with 13 points with Trey Kalacinski adding 11.

CAMERON COUNTY 56, OTTO-ELDRED 30

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Up just two at halftime, Cameron County blitzed through Otto-Eldred in the second half to pick up a 56-30 road NTL victory.

The Red Raiders were ahead 17-15 at the break but outscored the Terrors 39-15 in the second half including 21-9 in the third quarter.

Dino Brown hit a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers on his way to nine points in the quarter and 16 in the game.

Hayden Brown, meanwhile, scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter and 14 of his points after halftime.

Dylan Guisto added nine tallies and Caden Beldin eight in the win for Cameron County.

Braden Maholic and Jake Merry each scored six points for Otto-Eldred, which shot just 29 percent for the game.

COUDERSPORT 57, NORTHERN POTTER 9

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Dillon Keglovits scored 16 points to lead a trio of Coudersport players in double digits, as the Falcons rolled past visiting Northern Potter, 57-9, in NTL action.

Hayden Keck added 13 points for Coudersport, whose defense didn’t give up a field goal until the third quarter, with Kolby VanWhy scoring 11.

Carter Anderson scored six points for Northern Potter, which trailed 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 38-3 at halftime.

GIRLS

NORTHERN POTTER 49, BUCKTAIL 22

ULYSSES, Pa. – Courtney Martin scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Northern Potter to a 49-22 win over visiting Bucktail.

Aubrey Anderson added 10 points for the Lady Panthers with Megan Hyde hauling in a game-high 13 rebounds to go with four points.

Kayla Probert and Julie Green each scored five points for Bucktail.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 73, CURWENSVILLE 32

DUBOIS, Pa. – Martina Swalligan and Jordan Kosko each scored 18 points to lead DuBois Central Catholic to a 73-32 win over visiting Curwensville in AML action.

Shay Gulvas chipped in 14 points for the Lady Cardinals with Faith Jacob scoring 11.

Alyssa Bakaysa had a team-high 15 points for Curwensville.
