Karns City Softball and Baseball Sweeps Past Brookville Saturday

BUTLER, Pa. – The Karns City softball and baseball teams swept a doubleheader with visiting Brookville Saturday afternoon in the season openers for all four teams at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.

Softball started the day, and Karns City picked up a 2-0 victory thanks to a one-hit shutout from Makenzie Shay, who walked a batter and struck out six.

Mackenzie Dunn and Makala Bailey each had singles for the Lady Gremlins, who gave first-year head coach Mike Stitt a win in his debut.

Carlie McManigle’s fourth-inning infield single was the lone hit for the Lady Raiders.

In the baseball game, Tyler Yough’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Jace Ebbitt, who started the inning with a single, to give Karns City a 4-3 victory.

Brookville had rallied from three down tying the run on a sixth-inning, two-out infield single by Bryan Dworak.

Yough had a strong game for the Gremlins going 2-for-3 with a two-run third-inning triple. He had three RBIs and scored a run. Markus Lantz added a pair of hits, including a triple, scored a run and drew two walks.

Yough got the win in relief allowing two hits and two walks while striking out two in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Dworek was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored for Brookville getting two of the Raiders four hits. He also stole a pair of bases. Ben Caun added an RBI on a sac fly with Tanner LaBenne collecting a double and Aaron Park an RBI groundout.

Park took the loss in relief of Ben Reitz, who didn’t allow an unearned run in four innings of work.
